This drama from 2011 is written and directed by Tomislav Radić, and I dare to say: It is the best screenplay I've seen in a long time from Europe! Storytelling and development of the screenplay was done the best possible way and the acting, cinematography and camera work were absolutely superb! From the initial frame with a shaky camera work you could feel the real maestro of film works, who led very talented cast (Igor Kovac as Jakov, Suzana Nikolic as Seka, the veteran Boris Buzančić as Dida, Goran Navojec as Damir, Filip Krizan as Kreso, etc...) into everyday drama becoming larger than life on the big screen. Tomislav Radić is one of the most known Croatian film, TV and theatre directors and his internationally awarded feature films include "The Living Truth" (1971), "The Harbour" (1973), "What Iva Recoded on October 21st, 2003" (2005), "Three Stories About Sleeplessness" (2008) and "Kotlovina" (2011). In 120 minutes we become a part of a big family reunion at the weekend cottage around traditional food preparation "kotlovina" (pig on a spit and lots of drinking) with quaintly amusing and earnest situations revealing what is stronger: ties of blood and background or culture and the way of living. I'll recommend it with open heart... watch it and see for yourself why it won so many awards (58th Pula Film Festival, July 2011 won: Grand Golden Arena for Best Film, Golden Arena for Best Screenplay, Golden Arena for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Golden Arena for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Golden Arena for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Special Golden Arena for Sound and 5th Vukovar FF, August 2011 won Best Feature and Best film by the audience)!
