Robbie Collin News of the World It's actually pretty watchable thanks to a demented turn from Huston, a terrifyingly tense final act and, shall we say, a 'committed' performance from Liz. Rated: 3/5 Mar 16, 2010 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard It may ultimately lack subtlety, but it peers into the hearts and minds of its two weird protagonists with some skill. Rated: 2/5 Mar 16, 2010 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk Rose films on the fly using hand-held digital video cameras - which give the scenes of marital discord a convincing immediacy. Nov 16, 2014 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall A gripping, Hitchcockian marital thriller with the added value of a score by Ludvig van Beethoven himself Rated: 4/5 Jul 6, 2010 Full Review Amber Wilkinson Eye for Film The acting and the scene direction have a delicate, organic feel that is stomped all over by the narration and noise. Audience Member Read and comment on my review at: http://bit.ly/Jh9zW1 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Hugely unpleasant digital effort from the masterful Rose. This is an exercise in slow-boiling tension and the wonderful intricacies of jealousy and insecurity that form in a mature relationship. The final, incredibly disturbing scenes that close the film are as upsetting and macabre as anything Rose has done previously. A tragically over-looked thriller that should be sought out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Dark, oh so very dark. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Marriage, jealousy, classical music, and a crazy ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A flawed movie about some very dislikeable and rich inhabitants of Beverley Hills which has a rather silly ending and not much before that. The film is not without its plus points however and is about a husband's jealousy at his pianist wife and her violin partner Aiden as they practice and perform Beethoven's The Kreutzer Sonata. Danny Huston's performance is fine as the paranoid Edgar and the sequences where we see and hear the sonata are very good. The movie suffers from an extremely annoying voiceover from Edgar and the overall direction is weak. The film is in the style of Curb Your Enthusiasm without the humour and has the subject matter of a Michael Haneke film without the feeling of fear he can instill. An average film but worth watching for the sonata and Danny Huston's performance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review gordon a Rose partners up again with his go to guy Huston for a torrid tale of male jealousy out of control. It has a thoughtful, insightful script but is spoiled by its cheap look and technique. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
