"The Double Hour" is a tremendously entertaining take on film noir, with all the usual elements of the genre in play - crime, death, possibly murder and doomed romance. I think. Go to Full Review

A taut and twisty thriller whose surprises genuinely surprise and whose shocks genuinely shock. Go to Full Review

As directed by Giuseppe Capotondi with little more than a chilled eye for sleek surfaces, the rug-pulling games make for mental chewing gum that quickly loses its flavor. Go to Full Review

While the twists and turns in "The Double Hour" indeed achieve the level of Messrs. Shyamalan and Amenbar in top form, they nevertheless reek of gimmickry. Go to Full Review

Roberto T Feb 23 A brilliant interpretation of perspective while telling a story with many twists and turns. For me it remained a mystery for half the movie, which is basically all the way til they start to show the key details. This made it challenging in the first half, as you keep feeling dissonance like "someone wouldn't do that" until you finally understand their perspective. But it also makes it deeply rewarding when you finally catch up. The role of Sofia was compellingly played. See more hamid reza g 02/20/2023 First of all, the performance of "Kseniya Rappoport" in the role of Sofia is remarkable. The strong point of the film is avoiding extremism to attract the audience in the manner of cinematic techniques that are seen in most films in this genre. The film consciously avoids emotionalizing the audience. It does not give slogans of moralism. The end of the movie is different and good. Moreover, the soundtrack of the film is well See more ronald h 01/09/2021 Excellent twisty film. The story folds back on itself like a mobius strip. But it doesn't come off as gimmicky, thanks to strong performances and directing. There might be a couple of plot holes, but I was so engrossed in figuring out what was going on, I didn't notice them. The conclusion wraps things up nicely. After watching, I realized that it was the journey as much as the destination that intrigued me. This film is the same ball park as Hitchcock / Polanski, and that's high praise. The subtitles are well-synced and easy to read. See more 06/20/2017 A bit of a spoiler alert. This movie is an ode to filmmaking, crossing over genres without entirely losing that it is fundamentally a heist movie and a love story. There are twists and turns in plot as well as in directorial style. I believe it could have gained from better cinematography especially in terms of cutting between characters. You won't like the movie if you don't like being tricked by plot and genre twists (noir, Hitchcock, suspense thriller, unreliable narratives, heist, love triangle, etc.) but I found it very compelling. Tsenia Rappoport is engaging, and as the role demands, elusive in her delivery. See more 11/05/2015 The third-act twist is just a huge middle-finger to the audience. "We couldn't think of a way to finish this story, so here's the oldest twist in the book." Fuck off.
