Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 10, 2011 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic "The Double Hour" is a tremendously entertaining take on film noir, with all the usual elements of the genre in play - crime, death, possibly murder and doomed romance. hamid reza g First of all, the performance of "Kseniya Rappoport" in the role of Sofia is remarkable. The strong point of the film is avoiding extremism to attract the audience in the manner of cinematic techniques that are seen in most films in this genre. The film consciously avoids emotionalizing the audience. It does not give slogans of moralism. The end of the movie is different and good. Moreover, the soundtrack of the film is well Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review ronald h Excellent twisty film. The story folds back on itself like a mobius strip. But it doesn't come off as gimmicky, thanks to strong performances and directing. There might be a couple of plot holes, but I was so engrossed in figuring out what was going on, I didn't notice them. The conclusion wraps things up nicely. After watching, I realized that it was the journey as much as the destination that intrigued me. This film is the same ball park as Hitchcock / Polanski, and that's high praise. The subtitles are well-synced and easy to read. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review matthew r Ah, those tricky Italians! This movie was a blast. If oddball thrillers with twists within twists mixed into a romance is your game, watch on. Although subtitled, not much is lost in translation and if there's one thing Italians know is how to communicate non-verbally. The first half of the movie was spent trying to figure out what kind of movie this was? A romance? A murder/myster? A supernatural thriller? The obvious twist is the one the director wants you to know about beforehand so the thought is lack of depth. What the director doesn't want you to know about causes one to think, plot holes! But then that's until the director wants you to know what the real story is and BAMM! everything falls into place nicely. If I have one complaint, and its a small one, the ending is not going to please everyone. This movie is a well done flick without the entrapments of trying to hard or being to artsy. Good story, well done, go ahead and rent it if you do have Amazon Prime were it's available at now. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit of a spoiler alert. This movie is an ode to filmmaking, crossing over genres without entirely losing that it is fundamentally a heist movie and a love story. There are twists and turns in plot as well as in directorial style. I believe it could have gained from better cinematography especially in terms of cutting between characters. You won't like the movie if you don't like being tricked by plot and genre twists (noir, Hitchcock, suspense thriller, unreliable narratives, heist, love triangle, etc.) but I found it very compelling. Tsenia Rappoport is engaging, and as the role demands, elusive in her delivery. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member The third-act twist is just a huge middle-finger to the audience. "We couldn't think of a way to finish this story, so here's the oldest twist in the book." Fuck off. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Well crafted edge-of-your-seat thriller that sadly feels like a bit of a let down by the end.
