Bernard Drew Gannett News Service I had begun to think I was getting old, but perhaps I am not as old as I sometimes think for I found myself rather bored and annoyed with Catherine Deneuve and her chic tristesse in Francoise Sagan's La Chamade. Audience Member Upper class beautiful people follow their desires with only a moderate regard for one another's true feelings; a glowing Deneuve is swathed in gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent for the entire film Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member If you're a fan of Catherine Deneuve, then you might just love this movie, because she was stunning in it. For me, that detail certainly didn't keep me from yawning and falling asleep. The story is incredibly slow and boring. Granted, it is an adaption of a book by Francoise Sagan, who is known to write insipid storylines that, some might say, are better enjoyed being read rather than being watched on the silver screen. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member The story is rather simple and the end predictable, but the dynamics of a relationship such as that between Lucille and Antoine is what makes this typical story about a woman falling in love unexpectedly and wholly one worth watching. It also doesn't hurt to take a tour of Paris in the 1960s. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Any minor film with Deneuve is still delicious. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Leave it to the French to make a film about relatively uninteresting individuals in very interesting relationships. Lacked some amount of punch or passion, but absorbing overall. Catherine Deneuve is UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL here. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this. I keep watching great 60's films from Francoise Sagan's books and I have to say that they all are very entertaining. Deneuve is at her steely best. And the whole thing is just fantastically acted, ennui-ridden, and completely satisfying. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
