Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to achieve but never manage to find. For the band of tombaroli, thieves of ancient grave goods and archaeological wonders, the Chimera means redemption from work and the dream of easy wealth. For Arthur, the Chimera looks like the woman he lost, Beniamina. To find her, Arthur challenges the invisible, searches everywhere, goes inside the earth -- in search of the door to the afterlife of which myths speak. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between celebrations and solitudes, the intertwined destinies of these characters unfold, all in search of the Chimera.

Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) The film's got more than a hint of Fellini in it; a carnivalesque rogues galleria of faces... Scholz Clarín The best thing about La Chimera is that one can imagine (dream?) whatever one wants, because the director...is like a dealer who gives out cards so that one can play his game and do whatever one wants. Shane E It was mysterious and accidentally beautiful. It reminded me of what movies can be. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review elaine f A sweet, funny, sad movie. Great actors (although the Italian gang was a little stereotypical). We could see it again since. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Marshall A film for the film lovers!! Parts of it reminded me of things Kubrick and Godard would do! Solid movie!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Marcos G A poetic reflection on our dreams, our failures, and the unavoidable obstacles placed before us. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Raphael G Masterfully shot. Beautiful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/08/25 Full Review Luis I An intriguing cinematic experience. The film introduces multiple characters and situations at a rapid pace, making it initially difficult to keep track of everything. However, once the first act concludes, a clear plot emerges, and the film becomes much easier to follow. Rather than relying on a conventional narrative structure, the story unfolds in a fluid, almost fragmented manner. For the most part, this approach works well, but there are moments (particularly when the protagonist makes drastic decisions) that feel somewhat unearned. While we can grasp the motivations behind these choices, the film doesn’t always provide enough emotional groundwork to fully justify them. The filmmaking style is distinctive. It isn’t particularly aesthetic but leans toward a simple, naturalistic approach that aligns well with the film’s tone. Though mostly grounded in realism, the film knows when to step outside of itself, embracing eccentricity and moments of surrealism. The influence of Fellini is palpable, especially in the way it explores themes of irreverence toward the past, contrasting it with the mundanity of modern life. Overall, it’s a solid and well-crafted film, though it left me wanting a bit more. I still recommend it, with the caveat that it’s an unconventional foreign film (Italian), which may not appeal to all viewers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
