paul d 3 stars does not transmit my complete view of the film. I give it 5 stars for being important, unforgettable, controversial and worth seeing, but only 3 stars in terms of the quality of the final product. I think that Cavani likes to shock her audience, filming transgressions and juxtapositions for the sake of it, out of some deep political urge that goes beyond the nuanced and humane views of the novel's author Malaparte. At least Cavani is true to Malaparte's original vision of showing both Americans and Neapolitans in favorable and unfavorable ways, revealing the inherent complexity of a very difficult situation. Mastroianni is outstanding. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Love, hate and abuse in Lilian Cavani's over-the-top World War II study of the liberation of war torn Italy. Marcello Mastroianni and Ken Marshall are very good in their roles but Burt Lancaster seems miscast in his small role of General Clark. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
