Curtis P A deeply moving story about a French soldier killed in WW1 whose best friend, a Senegalese fellow soldier , is tasked with telling his fiance he has died. Yet he was betrayed by a nobleman in the same town. The dead fiancé's betrothed falls in love with the messenger. Souleyman Ndiye carries the film with his smoldering dignity to its ultimate tragic end. While the film is excellent at portraying racism in WW1 era, rural France, at times it is too overwrought to convince, such as when a villager displays two Africans in a cage as "monkeys." Can be seen on MhZ. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
