Donald Clarke Irish Times The film does go on at least 20 minutes too long and requires the viewer to take The Who's laughable excesses - notably the vainglorious Tommy - more seriously than they deserve. Rated: 3/5 May 29, 2015 Full Review Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer Opens the window on a pivotal time in 1960s (and early 1970s) pop culture. Rated: 3.5/4 May 21, 2015 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) There are candid interviews from Stamp, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey and pleasurable acres of archival footage. Rated: 3/5 May 17, 2015 Full Review Victoria Luxford CineVue Absolutely essential viewing for aficionados of the band, and a captivating couple of hours for everyone else. Rated: 4/5 Apr 5, 2019 Full Review Bernard Boo Way Too Indie The generosity of Daltrey and Townshend show to their old friends is heartwarming, and despite the film's abrasive, raucous aesthetic, there's a tenderness to it that creeps up on you unexpectedly. Rated: 8/10 Mar 14, 2019 Full Review James Clay Fresh Fiction In the documentary LAMBERT & STAMP, we follow the unlikely partnership of Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert, who accidentally inspired a generation by nurturing one of the great rock bands of the 20th century, The Who. Audience Member A film that had to be made to provide testament to 2 vanguard rock music managers. Ironically, they were focused on the cinema industry, but fate took them on a path in developing The Who, one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Loaded with interviews from the now aging key players from the original story, including Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and Chris Stamp himself, the film may contain a little too much information as it comes across as overly indulgent at times. After all, this isn't a documentary of The Who, but of their original managers. A little long at 120 minutes. It may have been better suited to having been edited down to 90 minutes, which would have curtailed some of the monotony, and likely have made the same impact. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member some amazing, high-quality concert footage of the band at their earliest, before they were called The Who. super engaging story about their managers/promoters. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most riveting documentary films I've ever seen this year. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member This documentary may have the most interesting back story of any that I have seen. Poignant, eye-opening, illustrative and sad. A must see for Who fans. Along with the chronicle of the band's career Chris Stamp provides a road map for finding and "creating" a Rock & Roll sensation! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this movie! If you are at all a fan of The Who, you will enjoy this behind the scenes documentary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member An entertaining documentary on The Who's early management duo. It could of wandered off and told countless tales of post gig debauchery but instead it stays focused and concentrates on the two main protagonists.
