E V The film unfortunately underwhelms compared to expectations, with exception to Zahn's energy and Dylan Baker's exciting character. The premise, the setting, and the foundation is all interesting, however the story, and the acting fall flat. A dull lag seems to linger in the film, never allowing it truly blossom, but there still isn't firm assurance it would ever blossom with what is all there in the first place. Although much of the film is mostly forgettable, would wholeheartedly welcome a backstory on Baker's character. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/01/24 Full Review Robby M The movie felt very familiar to a lot of other movies, but one thing that stuck out to me was how inauthentic it was. None of these characters felt like Texans. They seemed like midwesterners. Even Steve Zahn's ridiculous outfit came across as a guy who wasn't from Texas pretending like he was. NO Texan would wear that ridiculous outfit. Ever. It didn't even look like Texas. The town they were supposed to be in is a suburb of Waco, and it's not desert in that part of Texas. You have to go far out west. This is east texas. I know I'm being petty, but if you're going to call your movie "LaRoy, Texas" then at least have a LITTLE authenticity. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Karl73 J Great to see John Magaro in a leading role for a change. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Izzy O Absolutely loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Warren M Watch Red Rock West instead. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Garrett G Loved this movie! Totally unexpected. A great dark comedy. One of my favorites I’ve seen this year. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “LaRoy, Texas” remains as unpredictable as an overly agitated Texas rattlesnake and has just about as much bite to it. Rated: 3/4 Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Robert Daniels RogerEbert.com Atkinson’s hilarious feature debut is a barn burner of a western-thriller whose Coen Brothers-inspired nods give life to its meek protagonist. Rated: 3/4 Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Phil Hoad Guardian If Atkinson isn’t quite the Coen inheritor he aspires to be, this hectic flurry of schemers, snatchers and low-lifes puts him three-quarters of the way to inventing a new genre: Texan noir farce. Rated: 3/5 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Anthony Francis Film Threat With Larroy, Texas, Atkinson proves himself a confident filmmaker and screenwriter with an ear for dialogue and skill in designing intriguing characters and situations. Rated: 9/10 Apr 29, 2024 Full Review Robin Holabird Robin Holabird LaRoy offers its own share of intrigue in no country for men—or for that matter, people in general--who want to move forward in life. Apr 22, 2024 Full Review Natasha Alvar Cultured Vultures The cast does excellent work in LaRoy, Texas. Magaro excels at playing the sad, hapless husband, while Zahn entertains as the hilarious and slightly idiotic Skip. Rated: 7/10 Apr 19, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
