Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “LaRoy, Texas” remains as unpredictable as an overly agitated Texas rattlesnake and has just about as much bite to it. Rated: 3/4 Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Robert Daniels RogerEbert.com Atkinson’s hilarious feature debut is a barn burner of a western-thriller whose Coen Brothers-inspired nods give life to its meek protagonist. Rated: 3/4 Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Phil Hoad Guardian If Atkinson isn’t quite the Coen inheritor he aspires to be, this hectic flurry of schemers, snatchers and low-lifes puts him three-quarters of the way to inventing a new genre: Texan noir farce. Rated: 3/5 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Dave Giannini Geek Vibes Nation LaRoy, Texas is certainly not the worst movie you will see this year. Unfortunately, it is nowhere near the best, either. Rated: 6.5/10 Jul 19, 2025 Full Review Jaylan Salah InSession Film But it lacks one of the most important elements of this specific sub-genre, and that is a captivating script. Rated: C+ Feb 25, 2025 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media LaRoy, Texas is full of Coen brothers-style charm, with its dark humor, absurd interludes, and existential middle-of-nowhere location combined with a solid level of bloody violence and characters you can't help but root for. Lúcio Leonardo P Entertainment that's a pleasant surprise, as long as you don't know much about it (even the trailer gives things away). A comedic film that reveals a real personal drama, that in this vast world, someone experiences something similar to each character presented here, whether in joy, sadness, health or sickness, life or death, in Laroy, Texas. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review Dennis T. If you enjoy extremely well written, well acted dark comedy/dramas, you are going to love this movie. The first thing I did was buy a digital copy of the film so I can show it to others and see it many times over. Can’t say enough positive things about the film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Frans B Brilliant! Atkinson did good here, there is a Coen brothers feel about it. Just LOVE the cinematography. Very well and intelligently written. Hilarious, dark, witty, unpredictable and fierce. Never a dull moment. Whole cast really excels convincingly in character. Absolutely loved it. Highly recommended Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/28/25 Full Review Diego D Absolutely brilliant movie. This is the quality I expect when I watch any movie. Great performance, not that obvious and great dialogues. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/25/25 Full Review ron y The only change I would make is letting Stacy-Lynn get in the car. Great show. Great twists and turns. You will love this movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review Ben W I really like this movie. It kept me guessing and I was also very drawn into the characters. Anybody who didn't like this movie doesn't appreciate good writing and/or a little bit of dark comedy. Characters were amazing. Plot was easy enough to follow but had good amount of twists to keep you guessing. Coen brothers style for sure. Highly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
