Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “LaRoy, Texas” remains as unpredictable as an overly agitated Texas rattlesnake and has just about as much bite to it. Rated: 3/4 Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Robert Daniels RogerEbert.com Atkinson’s hilarious feature debut is a barn burner of a western-thriller whose Coen Brothers-inspired nods give life to its meek protagonist. Rated: 3/4 Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Phil Hoad Guardian If Atkinson isn’t quite the Coen inheritor he aspires to be, this hectic flurry of schemers, snatchers and low-lifes puts him three-quarters of the way to inventing a new genre: Texan noir farce. Rated: 3/5 Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Kat Halstead Common Sense Media LaRoy, Texas is full of Coen brothers-style charm, with its dark humor, absurd interludes, and existential middle-of-nowhere location combined with a solid level of bloody violence and characters you can't help but root for. Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Calum Baker Radio Times A uniformly excellent cast keeps the pace going, right to the inevitably bloody climax. Rated: 4/5 Jul 1, 2024 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Zany Coen brothers-like comedy thriller. Rated: B+ May 20, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Waqas K Loved this movie, funny at times, keeps gussing you about what's to come. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Brad B The unfinished truth. Unfinished in life, finished in death. What a lovely portrait. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Esteban R Hilarious and intriguing, a true hidden gem that went completely unnoticed. Laroy, Texas reflects similar nuances to “Fargo” and “No Country for Old Men,” with a mix of entertainment, tragic twists, and a touch of melancholic fatalism in the characters, leading us to understand that the outcome could be catastrophic and unpredictable. The film is set in Laroy, Texas, a tiny place where multiple events occur at the same time. Evidently, all these events will intertwine at the end, creating an atmosphere of intrigue and a gloomy environment that surrounds the story and its characters. Strongly influenced by the Coen brothers, this type of plot does not distract us from the fun, even though its dramatic charge is lighter. The plot is established from the first moment and is maintained until the end. Fun, hilarious and slightly melancholic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/25 Full Review Fred W A surprising hidden gem! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Jim C Enough twists and turns to keep you guessing where this goofy tale is headed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/25 Full Review John M I don't think most of the critics even watched this movie. It stars out pretty good then as it goes along the story line gets complicated as hell and falls apart. The REAL reviews are with the audience not the so-called critics who probably never saw the movie. To the writers and directors. Keep the story linear and straightforward.
