John Magaro was an American film and TV actor who rose to prominence in 2015 with his role in the critically acclaimed historical drama "The Big Short" (2015). Magaro was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and despite the geographical limitations of his hometown, took an early interest in the craft of acting. He started performing in plays in an around his hometown, most notably the Cleveland Playhouse, and by his early 20s was appearing in TV commercials. Magaro appeared in a few short films before landing his first high-profile film role in 2007's "The Brave One." He continued nabbing mostly film roles over the next few years, most notably in "The Life Before Her Eyes" (2007), "We Pedal Uphill" (2008), and "The Box" (2009), the latter of which was written and directed by Richard Kelly. Then in 2012 Magaro landed his first big break when he was cast as the lead in David Chase's feature film debut "Not Fade Away." Magaro starred alongside the late James Gandolfini in the film, about a 1960s New Jersey rock group trying to make it in the music industry. The film put Magaro on the map as a young actor to watch, and over the next two years he appeared in such big budget films as "Captain Phillips" (2013) and "Unbroken" (2014). By 2015 Magaro's status as a respected actor continued to rise with his supporting roles in two of the year's most critically acclaimed dramas, "Carol" and "The Big Short." Furthermore, he also appeared in three episodes on the third season of the Netflix prison comedy-drama "Orange Is the New Black" (Netflix, 2013- ).
