georgan g It's an okay Western but took too long to get where the plot wanted to go. Fair acting. Can only give it 3 stars. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Technically well made and credible western drama with more or less convincing characters, freely based on historical events around the Texan - Santa Fe Expedition, during the time of the Republic Of Texas, and involving the Texas Rangers, the Comanche and Mexican troops. Varying quality in direction and acting, but generally true effects. The perhaps clearest positive is little or no romanticization of historical conditions or exaggerated heroism. The main characters are rangers and much of the plot evolves around their hard daily as well as personal lives, with a focus on surviving as a hired solider. However, some of the characters and their dialogue have a tendency to be overplayed, and in periods there is an added effort to create humor that is on the verge of parodic. Additionally the plot also includes some silly romance, which moreover makes it even less interesting. It is the historical events and severity of the situations that should drive the drama, and this mini series is good when that is the case. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review steve d The worst story in the series but it still is interesting for fans. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyed the story (loosely following the early history of Texas) and the actors (although David Arquette was not the best choice for Gus). It is the second best film in the series after Lonesome Dove. I also enjoyed the theme song. Would definitely recommend watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Not anywhere near the quality of Lonesome Dove. Very long drawn out story with bad acting and boring plot line. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A great addition to the LONSESOME DOVE series. Arquette and Miller give great performances as Gus and Call, respectively. A prequel to Lonesome Dove, Dead Man's Walk takes place when Gus and Call are young Texas Rangers, in a fight between Texas, Mexico, and Apache Indians.
