Audience Member Disturbing -although not morbid- portrait of the real prostitution case that shook the country in the sixties. Told in flashbacks after the Poquianchis sister's arrest, the film deconstructs the story of these three women who abducted young girls to work as prostitutes and make money for them. As the girls tried to rebel, the sisters would order to carry out punishments between themselves -from beatings, to starving... and eventually murder. Under the hands of another director it would've been unbearable, but Cazals stays objective and stays away from gruesome scenes. The cast is quite impressive featuring the royalty of the 70's Mexican film scene: Diana Bracho, Tina Romero, María Rojo, Pilar Pellicer, Malena Doria, Ana Ofelia Murguía, Patricia Reyes Spíndola, Gonzalo Vega and Manuel Ojeda.
