Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times At its most absorbing, Lasseter's story plays like an Aussie Treasure of the Sierra Madre, in which the main subject is a bit of a cypher whose true nature proves to be as difficult to pinpoint as that elusive gold. May 26, 2016 Full Review Josh Kupecki Austin Chronicle A muddled, boring film that circles back around on itself so many times that the effect is a bit like Groundhog Day. Rated: 1.5/5 May 26, 2016 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) [Walker's] enthusiasm is infectious, and in a way it's an asset that, unlike the majority of local documentary makers, he has no social or political axe to grind. Sep 11, 2014 Full Review Sarah Ward Trespass Though varying little in style and structure from similar first-person investigative efforts, Walker's film is sustained not only by his intriguing take on an interesting topic, but by the filmmaker's personable presence. May 22, 2020 Full Review Andrew McMurtry FILMINK (Australia) While you could argue that the film is slightly too long, and that Walker reads too much into things that feel inconsequential, it remains a fascinating look into an unrecognised slice of Australian history. Sep 11, 2014 Full Review Blake Howard 2UE That Movie Show Lassester's Bones is as much about the illumination of the myth surrounding the man as it is about man's desire to complete the incomplete and fulfil the unfulfilled. It's poetic, personal filmmaking. Rated: 4/5 Dec 30, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Insightful perspective on Australia's history and a captivating legend. Blend of documentary and mythical elements. Story-telling at its finest! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Still in shock that the design for the Sydney harbour bridge may have been patented years before when Harold Lasseter sketched it! I'm very curious about his life, as he was clearly a very intelligent man with numerous ideas on military strategy and engineering. Australia's Lost Gold does a great job exploring Lasseter's life, the impact he left behind, and the legend itself. Obviously after spending over 30 years of his life looking for the missing gold in the harsh central Australian desert, Bob Lasseter sees more value in his effort than just striking it rich. There is a rich theme of family history in this film that is very charming. Luke Walker's respect for the family history and the story is well illustrated and overall the film is a great watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member International films like "Australia's Lost Gold" excite me. I love films in general but being able to explore different places and cultures through film is so special. It allows viewers to see aspects of that area that they may not even see if they visit that place. In this film, director Luke Walker takes his audience to the vast Central Australian Desert (an uncommon tourist location) and explores the history of Australia's rumored undiscovered gold. The story is great and I love how the Australian culture and landscape is captured throughout the film. Before watching the film, I was just expecting a history lesson but got so much more. It's a great film and I highly recommend giving it a watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Having watched close to no independent movies in my life, I was not expecting much from Australia's Lost Gold. I am elated to say that this movie was a pleasure to watch. Following the real life story of Bob Lasseter and his quest to find a giant sum of gold out in the Australian desert, the film is a great example of showcasing the power of human will. Director Luke Walker takes the larger than life mystery dating back to 1929 into his hands with Bob Lasseter and draws the audiences' attention closer and closer with him. The stakes of finding the gold are illustrated well and made me relate to Lasseter's quest for answers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Australia's Lost Gold reaches deep into the mystery of one of Australia's great legends. Harold Lasseter lost his life in pursuit of gold that many believe never existed, and his son, Bob, has dedicated himself to finding that same gold. Director Luke Walker joins Bob in his quest. With only ambiguous leads and his father's journal, Bob Lasseter searches throughout central Australia for the gold that would clear his father's name. The adventure takes many unexpected turns as they search for mysterious points of reference and interact with the aboriginal peoples in the area. Ultimately, Australia's Lost Gold is a story of passion, hope, and the harsh realities that come with such an adventure. Walker is able to successfully capture Bob's emotions while even succumbing to them himself. The result is a wonderful tale that is as engaging as it is ambitious. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Australia's Lost Gold is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's a thought provoking journey that takes an old man named Bob and Luke, the director, across the Australian outback. They're searching for Lasseter's lost gold in an effort to redeem his name. It's interesting and captivating, and you always wanting to see what is going to happen next. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
