Jithin K A Christmas story about mending family ties and a magical time travel to your younger years have been tropes for some time now. When used right these tropes can be done very well. Here, the protagonist wakes up next to her younger self on Christmas Eve and she tries her best to change everything that changes her life forever. The story itself was pretty good. There were a lot of moments and events that were given proper thought, showing how different people react to stuff, and at different ages. But the script was very weak as it felt like it wasn't as smart as the story, even if the story itself is a bit derivative. The characters had some nice archetypes attached to them which could have been explored better but a lot of the dialogues really felt very stupid. But the attractive and charming actors really make a lot of those work. The actors carried the movie, even with a lousy script and a relatively low budget. Overall, even though, this feels right up my alley and I really want to like it, the stupidity in the writing makes me feel it is just average. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/23 Full Review Audience Member pretty cute. different so kept my attention Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member How do you survive knowing that your worst possible mistakes define who you have become? In this holiday TV Movie, a woman comes to terms with her life choices when she awakens 17 years in the past on Christmas day and is reunited with her estranged family. Living life a second time around, she starts to understand the true meaning of love and family as she starts to repair the damages of the past...however, is she to late? As movies go (even TV Movies), the film tends to drag out the message of the story and it does not fit the usual Christmas type of movies. However looking at it for what it is...the strength of a family's love for one another, makes this trip to the past worth the visit!!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/04/15 Full Review Audience Member I thought this was cute - kind of a modern spin on the ghost of Christmas future. I also thought the acting was somewhat better and the cheese factor was lower than other Christmas movies. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member It is rare that I find any of the countless made-for-television Christmas movies worth spending two hours of my life watching. They most often are cookie-cutter accounts of the lonely 30-something female, dreading the holidays, suddenly thrown together by fate with a handsome, unshaven male whom she initially detests, and with whom she reluctantly forms an attachment that eventually transforms into love. That is decidedly NOT the case with "Kristin's Christmas Past" (or "Last Chance Holiday"). This well-written (Rachel Stuhler) fantasy does deal with romance, but it is not the main focus of the plot, which allows the film to concentrate on family relationships, instead. However, it does not abandon the love aspect, instead altering it with a love interest by 17 years. The acting by all the featured performers is several cuts above that you usually get in movies made for cable networks. I do not often watch television series, so I was not aware of Shiri Appleby's previous roles. It took just a few minutes watching this film to appreciate her ability to handle both comedy and drama, as does Hanna Marks as the younger Kristin. Elizabeth Mitchell also is excellent as Kristin's mother. If you usually have holiday movies playing in the background on your television as you are pursuing other interests at home, as do I, it might be worth the time to pay attention to this film.
