Helena Mora (Viveca Lindfors), the head of an eccentric theatrical family, has decided to sell her large estate in the Hamptons because of her recent money troubles. Before she completes the sale, she wants to have one last gathering of family and friends, with dramatic performances. Bringing everyone together, though, creates rivalries and tension, especially for Oona (Victoria Foyt), a temperamental but successful movie actress who seeks the approval of her creative peers.

Audience Member Wonderfully realized... Truly a lifetime achievement spectacularly starring and dedicated to the memory and distinguished career of Viveca Lindfors... The assembled cast is uniformly excellent and LAST SUMMER IN THE HAMPTONS emerges as an honest, moving and entertaining effort by Jaglom and Foyt... I really loved it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I used to like these kinds of movies, but I now find them tiresome. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Last Summer In The Hamptons is the tale of the Mora family's final summer in their long-time vacation retreat in the Hamptons, which has to be sold because of financial problems. The large family, led by matriarch Helene (Vivica Lindfors) is joined by a their acting students and Hollywood star Oona (Victoria Foyt). Helene has been a great legitimate theatre actress for many years and Oona has done Hollywood and now wants to be legit. Connections are made, hearts brokena and family secrets are revealed in the antics of this stellar ensemble cast which includes Jon Robin Baitz, Andre Gregory, Melissa Leo, Martha Plimpton and an appearance by Henry Jaglom, himself, as a Hollywood director. Foyt has some very funny scenes where she uses animals as characters to express herself. Lindfors is the cement that hold the hole bunch together. Expect long scenes with lots of dialog and introspection. Sexual confusion, identity crises and sibling fireworks are all a part of the humorous and moving film. This was Lindfors last performance before she died and it's a great one.     Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Not that I'm one strictly for plot-driven films (God forbid!) but this little outing is so inconsequential that it sometimes feels as if Jaglom was striving to remove any reason to depict these characters as the film progresses. Not that the actors on display are very far removed from who they actually are in real life, so there is a humorous irony that as we watch scene after scene of characters indulging in soulful monolgues or verbally fucking one another about the craft of acting that they weren't really asked to stretch their acting muscles for the film itself. The film has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with some cute moments sprinkled throughout. But I never believe that there is a family being depicted here. Its more like an odd caravan of character actors in their own little utopian get-away - which would have been more interesting I thnk. Any time the film tries to pull some drama out of the very thin air, and give this incestuous acting family some threads of plot, it feels stapled-on and perfunctory. A good Sunday afternoon hangover movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member the dialogue is a copy of woody allen style - i almost makes me repulsive towards the whole stupid yippies going melodramatic - nonetheless, i am still watching in practicing the "criticism and self-criticism" efforts of communism thinking. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member My favorite Henry Jaglom film. A funny movie about a theatrical family gathering for one last time at their summer home. Martha Plimpton is a hoot! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
