Petra Biondina Volpe captures the chaos and pressure of a night shift at an understaffed hospital in a cinematic tribute to nurses that’s elevated by the unflashy skill of Leonie Benesch. Go to Full Review

There’s an inevitability to the plotting, but the fact that we can predict Floria’s breakdown doesn’t make the spectacle any less potent. Go to Full Review

Lisbeth C @LizBeth25 Dec 27 The film recreates a sad reality and touches the heart! See more Fong Kok Hoong F Dec 23 In German, the original title HELDIN means "heroine" and this Switzerland‘s Oscar submission for 98th Academy Awards is a heartfelt tribute to the overworked nurses in understaffed hospitals all over the world as the camera follows one of them on a regular working night as she attends to a marathon of responsibilities akin to navigating menacing circumstances in a thriller. See more Vince Q @Vincedeq Nov 6 Starring Leonie Benesch. Taught, driving performance delivers the enormity of the responsibilities of the shift nurse. Benesch gives us a performance to rival her work in Babylon Berlin (2017) and The Teacher’s Lounge (2023), where she garnered the equivalent of a German Academy Award. See more Rob R Sep 21 Gripping. Some great acting by the patients ! See more Helen R Aug 31 So real. To understand the risks of health care you need to see this movie. Hopefully streaming or in main theatres soon See more Caroline M Aug 31 I’ve never seen anything so close to the reality of a nursing shift. It should be obligatory watching for government ministers and hospital managers because at the moment they don’t have a clue why we leave in droves. Their poor understanding of the reality of nursing leaves them making decisions and coming up with solutions that are doomed to failure all whilst piling on the pressure and every year still refusing to give us a pay rise. In real terms we get genuinely poorer every year. It’s almost as if we are supposed to be grateful. As someone living in the UK I did think ooo look their windows open properly, that can’t be right, along with OVERTIME? they get OVERTIME? Because we do a lot of work for free, there is no overtime. People often ask nurses who have left the profession if they miss it and look slightly disappointed when the reply is a quick “No” if they watch this film they’d understand why. Who in their right mind would miss this? The retirement age heading constantly upwards means we’re supposed to work at this physical and mental pace until (currently) we are 67years old. Can you imagine being able to do that at 67years old? Long ago they took away the final salary pension scheme so even if you make to retirement age you won’t be having a great time. So yeah after 25years I left. I’d didn’t know how light life can feel and wish I left a long time before. See more Read all reviews
