Stephen Holden New York Times Filled with comic intrigue ... Jun 9, 2015 Full Review Ken Eisner Georgia Straight Certainly shows off its large, largely female cast, led by the late Virna Lisi, in her final screen appearance. But this saving grace belongs to them, not to director Cristina Comencini, whose script does little to justify on-screen enthusiasm. Feb 18, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Surprisingly good. This movie does everything that a comedy is supposed to do. While it doesn't deliver big belly-laughs, I chuckled plenty of times, and it holds your attention every minute of the way. Lisi, Paredes and the rest of the mostly female cast are all excellent. But it is Lluis Homar that delivers the most emotional moment in the film. It is hard to write much about this film without giving away spoilers. This is really a movie about making movies. It asks the question, "What is the function/job of the movie star?" or as the pivotal character of Saverio is quoted as saying in the most poignant scene, "What do they see in me?" But it explores that idea in a lighthearted way without ever getting too ponderous or post-modern. It remembers at all times that it's still a comedy, still entertainment. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A ensemble-cast film similar to "8 Femmes" but messier and lack of character development. The "Cinema Paradiso sequence" is superb - touching, inspiring, an excellent homage to the long and proud history of Italian cinema, from neorealism to Spaghetti Western, but that might be the only outstanding part of the film. With a film focusing on revealing histories and twists-and-turns deep down inside its characters, the fact that almost all of them stay the same, untransformed, from the beginning to the end, is indeed disappointing. Still, a very light-hearted film, especially suitable for anyone confined in the small space of an economy seat during a 15-hour-long flight.
