Dennis Harvey Variety "Lazy Susan" aims hazily between the sad-sack valentine likes of "Muriel's Wedding" and something more satirically misanthropic, missing a target it never quite commits to in the first place. Apr 4, 2020 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times [W]hile the Nick Peet-directed film has its cheerfully outrageous moments... even mild shock value in the time of an epidemic might not be just what the doctor ordered. Apr 4, 2020 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Instead of being condescending about the Wisconsin characters and their mediocre lives, the comedy shows fondness for them. Rated: 3/4 Apr 4, 2020 Full Review Sandie Angulo Chen Common Sense Media Talented cast can't save underwhelming comedy. Rated: 1/5 Jun 4, 2020 Full Review Dominic Griffin Spectrum Culture But the problem is without that kind of arc, the audience is being asked to watch an insufferably selfish person be irritating for an hour and a half with little to no dramatic progression or catharsis. Rated: 1/5 Apr 7, 2020 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue ... plays like a failed sitcom pilot, differentiated by nonchalant acceptance of Susan's sexuality. That's nice, yet the film isn't nearly funny or clever enough to be considered progressive. Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

S L I took a quick glance at critics' reviews presented here on RT and don't really get the hate for this movie. Of course many of us want a movie to be what we want it to be instead of what is presented to us, and maybe that's the mistake of the reviewers. There's really nothing wrong that I can tell with the filming, acting, or story. Some of Susan's actions and reactions are what any of us would do, or at least want to do, if we're being honest. Other actions were probably unique to Susan's narcissism and constant self interest and refusal to consider the lives and feelings of others. Seems like many of the reviewers want heroes/heroines but that's not really what this story is about. It's about a flawed (in our eyes) person who is still trying to figure things out. I honestly found it delightful to watch. It was funny, quirky, entertaining, interesting. I'm sure I can come up with some criticism if I think hard enough but my only criticism right now is that it ended. I'd have loved more of it. A real life Susan might be irritating and frustrating to deal with but seeing life through her eyes, while not having to personally deal with her neediness and logic, is kind of eye opening. It takes some talent I feel to see this type of situation in a comedic and insightful way, even if you're the Susan yourself. I really liked this movie and will watch it again. Maybe it helps me see some harder-to-deal-with-people in my life in a different light? Hopefully it will cause I have a number of them. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/23 Full Review meredith w A quirky little indie movie that has its funny moments. Sean Hayes stars as the lead character, Susan, an unmotivated, lazy and self-centred oddball after a while you kind of forget about the male playing a female thing, which I guess in the point. There is not much of a narrative as we follow along Susan's story and character growth but it is an easy enough ride. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Kimberley A I enjoyed the movie. Sean Hayes is likable and relatable as Susan. I think a lot of us get stuck and find ourselves trying to figure out where to go from where we're at and I enjoyed her finding the measure to make her life move forward Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review jm m Loved Sean Hayes as this character and the cast was really great. Guy who played the brother was such a good match. Any movie with both Margo Martindale and Allison Janney already is ahead of the curve. BUT . . . the pacing of this movie was excruciating, and some of the funny parts were played so deadpan that they ended up more uncomfortable than funny. The ketchup bit will stick with me for a long time, though - lol. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I truly enjoyed Sean Hayes play Susan. It was an exaggerated mood of Jack Macfarland. Such a good spoof to watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Perfect Sean Hayes vehicle. I loved watching Sean and Allison J play off each other, sooo funny. Very enjoyable watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
