Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Genuinely funny French comedy with a great eye for detail. Its successfulness is not in the last place due to the ever-funny clown Pierre Richard (I’ll never forget that scene from “La chèvre” in which he plays the notorious klutz who singles out (from several dozens) the one and only chair with the broken leg to sit on). “Le coup du parapluie” is funny not only because it parodies the criminal milieu, but also the world of film with all its stereotypes. The slapstick is driven to a peak by the addition of relationship comedy confusions and disagreements (how to hide lover A from lover B, etc.). Admittedly, it is not very original, but comedies often aren’t. The combination of amusing factors and the speed and skilled execution of those make this a successful production and a pleasure to look at.
