Ian Buckwalter NPR Ultimately, in a film that highlights the physical barriers - walls, roadblocks, armed guards - that keep Palestinians where the Israelis want them, the film's biggest barrier is the one Jacir erects between Soraya and the viewer. Rated: 5.5/10 Aug 13, 2010 Full Review Mike Hale New York Times A sad and engrossing look at a haunted landscape. Rated: 3/5 Aug 13, 2010 Full Review Eric Hynes Time Out [An] impassioned, but wearisomely didactic, diaspora drama. Rated: 2/5 Aug 11, 2010 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune This is not a movie with much use for nuance. This is a movie with something to say -- and it says it. Over, and over and over again. Rated: 2/4 Sep 29, 2010 Full Review Ron Wilkinson Monsters and Critics Too much of the same thing torpedoes this potent essay on human rights in Israeli occupied Palestine. Rated: 7/10 Sep 3, 2010 Full Review Dan Lybarger eFilmCritic.com Because of her rootlessness, Soraya becomes sympathetic even though she flirts with disaster at every turn. Nada W Loved it! A must-see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Just an excuse to throw ashit on Israel. No argument whatsoever in the film, bland, just bland. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A wonderful mix of genres that manages to be moving, a little thrilling and very thought provoking. Also beautifully shot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This was such a moving and beautifully made film with a lot of depth. So I was surprised and saddened to see so many poor reviews. In particular (and in contrast to other reviewers) I thought Soraya's character made sense to me. I thought the film showed powerfully how her idealistic view of justice, keeps coming into conflict with the illogical, wearying reality of the Israeli occupation. It's a film which deals with complex ideas in a very accessible, creative and sensitive way. Everyone should see this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie had potential and there are some good moments but the protagonist, Soraya, spoils the movie with her self-entitlement and childish tantrums over debatable historical events. Her character is so unlikable and stupid that any scene involving her is painful to watch. The other characters are fine.
