Khaliel P The Gendarme in New York (1965) was rushed into production after the unexpected success of the first film, with Louis de Funès himself suggesting a trip abroad to differentiate the sequel. The Saint-Tropez brigade sails to New York for an international police congress, where Cruchot’s daughter secretly boards the ship and rivalries flare with Italian counterparts. Despite ignoring the continuity of the first film and being marked by tensions with actor Jean Lefebvre, the comedy benefits from its fresh setting and the unstoppable popularity of de Funès, who dominated French cinemas that year with multiple hits. Though critics were lukewarm, the film’s lively humor and unusual American backdrop made it a huge commercial success, paving the way for four more installments in the beloved saga. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/18/25 Full Review Audience Member I like Gendarme series so much. This movie is also very entertaining, also a big plus that it took place in NYC. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member An improvement over the 1964 original, "Le gendarme à New York" is not only funnier but demonstrates a spark that was largely missing before. Granted, the frenzy in which a lot of the incidents (including the climax) go down conceals the fact that, were cooler heads to prevail, at least some of the mayhem would have been avoidable, but believability might be besides the point here. Girault and Vilfrid are stretching their legs in a different, more spacious screenwriting setting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member The Second Part of the Gendarme Series where Louis de Funes and his Policemen went to New York City to a Worldwide Police Convention i remember one Time i saw this on Magic Mushrooms i laugh my Head off my Friend said look there Nazis when there sit grey uniformed Police Officers in the Room where all the Policemen from allaround the World sits and when they march trough Manhattan he always said look there is the World Trade Center no there it is no there it must be somewhere around there for Information it was a few Days after 9/11 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Un mauvais épisode des Gendarmes. Ca commence plutôt bien, c'est assez drôle, et puis ça devient long, et chiant, et répétitif, et pas drôle du tout... Autant regarder un bon volet des Gendarmes à la place. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member naar mijn mening een van de mindere uit de reeks Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
