Critics Consensus

Amy Adams is as appealing as ever, but her charms aren't enough to keep Leap Year from succumbing to an overabundance of clichés and an unfunny script.

Helena K it should have been better. pretty disappointed Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review grey g This is a romance that follows the predictable and dull formula of boy meets girl etc. It's set in Ireland to add charm and scenery, but it's not Ireland the country, but Ireland according to Hollywood scriptwriters from those times they wrote with manual typewriters. Simply stated: it's daft. There's nothing believable in it: not the characters, not the reasons for delays that enable the couple to get close, not the hotels, not the grass, not the geography and most especially not the nonsense of a leap year enabling women to propose. If the film were made in the 1930s or 40s, it could escape criticism for the fantasy it is. Even putting that aside, there's no chemistry with the leads, her fiance surgeon is from another planet and her homespun manners irritate. Truly awful. Those who know and love The Boys can see Queen Maeve as a bride in a wedding from John Ford's imagination. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review john j funny. romance movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Bee W This was silly and i normally enjoy romcom's. Matthew Goode was very good but really subdued. To be honest i watched only because i normally enjoy his performances Amy Adams was trying too hard - the chirpy acting got on my nerves. the plot was cliched and what a waste of John Lithgow! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/28/24 Full Review Nivea s I love this movie! I watched it multiple times. It is wholesome. Love the view, would like to go to Ireland because of this movie. Amy Adams acting is great and so as the leading man, love them both. I am very entertained. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/18/24 Full Review Wendy B I absolutely love this movie! I bought the DVD many years ago and pop it in every once in a while. Makes me happy and I love Ireland! And the actors are perfect together! Highly recommended!
