Lee, the directorial feature from award-winning Cinematographer Ellen Kuras, portrays a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer, Lee Miller (Kate Winslet). Miller's singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century's most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler's private bathtub. Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Above all, the film shows how Miller lived her life at full-throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood.

Kate Winslet's gripping performance in the title role helps elevate Lee beyond its disappointingly conventional biopic trappings.

Kate Winslet's very good in this. Winslet can't help but be good... Despite how good everyone is in this though, it just feels like a standard biopic to me in a lot of ways. Go to Full Review

Instead of dressing war in grandeur, [the film] stays close to the psychological weight carried by those who document it. What remains is a slow, pressing mood rather than a surge of cinematic excitement. Go to Full Review

A figure as complex as Miller deserved far more than such a functional and stiff biopic. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

While Lee could have been structured a lot better narratively, this does not take anything away from the very powerful impact that the film is bound to have on its audience. Go to Full Review
