After leaving the South as a young man and finding employment at an elite hotel in Washington, D.C., Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) gets the opportunity of a lifetime when he is hired as a butler at the White House. Strong performances from Whitaker, Winfrey and Oyelowo make the film worth watching. I enjoyed the journey but it had me feeling shame, embarrassment and sadness for our country that human beings, including some of our so-called leaders, behaved in the manner that they did. I'm grateful that we have evolved some since 1776 but there is still a long way to go.
