TheMovieSearch R Leprechaun: The Beginning is a chaotic misfire from start to finish, and honestly, I’m left wondering—what exactly is it the beginning of? Right from the opening scenes, the film struggles with its own premise. First, the Leprechaun himself is oddly proportioned—far taller than a traditional leprechaun should be—and his appearance is more alien than mythological, complete with what looks like a tiny bucket hat. It’s baffling, unconvincing, and frankly, distracting. The practical effects are equally cringe-worthy. There’s a scene where the Leprechaun knocks a man down a set of stairs and seemingly stomps on him. The result? Minimal contact, a bone sticking out that looks unmistakably like PVC pipe, and shockingly, not a single scream from the victim. It’s one of those moments where suspension of disbelief just evaporates entirely. You can practically see the filmmakers shrugging as they try to sell this as a gruesome moment. The story itself is awkward and ill-conceived. The Leprechaun here is the size of a young teenager—maybe a 14-year-old—yet he’s treated like a fully menacing supernatural creature. The narrative follows him clumsily, but there’s no tension, no intrigue, just a bizarre, uncomfortable mismatch of scale and characterization that makes it difficult to take seriously. Casting doesn’t help; it’s glaringly bad, almost immediately apparent from the start. The performances are flat, the dialogue stilted, and the actors seem lost in scenes that should be tense or entertaining. It’s a shame because horror can thrive on creativity, but this film leans on cheap gimmicks that fall flat. I went in expecting some twisted, low-budget Leprechaun horror fun, and while I hoped for at least a bit of charm, The Beginning delivers none. It’s messy, clumsy, and somehow even worse than some of the other low-tier entries in the franchise. The director and writers—who signed off on this catastrophe—should be embarrassed. Ultimately, this is a movie that’s hard to recommend to anyone, even die-hard Leprechaun fans. It’s not the worst I’ve ever seen, but it’s painfully close. If you’re looking for clever horror, suspense, or even nostalgic camp, this isn’t it. You’ll leave confused, disappointed, and wondering how something with such potential could go so horribly wrong. Ever the title is wrong... What is this the beginning of? Definitely not a career for any of these filmmakers. But when the title character is such a profusely bad actor (with revoltingly embarrassing dialogue) that he doesn't even get a credit... You know this is pure video garbage that killed the horror star. An absolute master class in how not to make a movie. The acting, directing, writing, editing, lighting, production design, and the makeup is all riddled with poor choices & inexperience fueled mistakes. Low budget is no excuse for inability, or the absence of any thought whatsoever, while making a movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review Dylan F Horrible movie. Low budget. Bad acting. I could not possibly recommend this movie to anybody. I initially watched this movie Due to my admiration for the leprechaun franchise, but it was quickly given a movie that completely deviates from the entire plot it is a shame that however, much money they spent on this went towards this and it could’ve been just used to give tobachildren without things that we all receive. Such a shame that this happened instead of the money going towards something useful. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/25 Full Review Matthew b I rather watch Troll 2 then this garbage of a movie. If Warwick Davis is not in the movie stop making Leprechaun movies. This movie had no plot, acting was bad, the makeup on the lepperchaun was so bad, and The general idea for this movie was just a bad idea never needed to be made. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/25 Full Review Audience Member Terrible writing, even worse acting. Note the first time you see the leprechaun, only its face has makeup and his hands are completely left undone. In later scenes it wears gloves. Do not recommend. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/18/25 Full Review Bob V This movie caused me to make a rotten tomatoes account and leave this rating. It's so stupid. Hilariously bad. Why is that grown woman playing a child? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Read all reviews
