Peter Bradshaw Guardian [A] chamber piece of sex, surreality and the absurd, like something by Luis Buuel or Luigi Pirandello, or a sexed-up version of TS Eliot's The Cocktail Party. Rated: 3/5 Oct 2, 2014 Full Review Adam Woodward Little White Lies A banquet of body and soul. Rated: 3/5 Oct 2, 2014 Full Review Guillem Martinez Oya Cinematismo A shamanic audiovisual journey trough the existence of the human beings. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4.5/5 Apr 13, 2020 Full Review Craig Williams CineVue Gonzalez's weakness is one of pace and tone. There are sensational moments in You and the Night, but he can't quite manage to bring it together. Rated: 3/5 Apr 3, 2019 Full Review Rich Cline Contactmusic.com Surreal and over-constructed, this offbeat French drama often feels more like a stage play than a movie, with its pointed dialogue and a cast of "types". Rated: 3/5 Oct 5, 2014 Full Review Emma Simmonds Radio Times The film's prurient philosophising can be frustratingly pithy but there's a cheeky gag around every corner and the imaginative visuals, committed performances and tendency to transgress mean things are never less than interesting. Audience Member Sorry. It is too weird beyond my comprehension. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Like every student film you don't want to see, written by adolescents for their pseudo intellectual peers, just embarrassing from start to finish. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A couple and their transvestite maid host an orgy of unnamed strangers. During the party, the group learn about eachothers lives and form a brief and intimate bond. This film is quite navel gazing in its hipsterdom, but what it actually is is a pervy dark love letter to John Hughes's The Breakfast Club. Each guest is named from a trope; The Stud; The Whore; The Star; The teen. There is even a scene towards the end that is a direct correlation. This is nothing as good as The Breakfast Club though. Tres Francais. Ennui central. It actually has more in common with the like of Derek Jarman and Peter Greenaway. Very poetic in language and gorgeously shot. Some elements of 70s European horror too. To be honest I watched for the Eric Cantona full frontal. Turned out to be prosthetic. He has an odd and brief BDSM scene with Beatrice Dalle. The sexy party promised didn't materialise though, but it was an oddly beautiful film. An acquired taste. Very acquired. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Fun throwback to the sort of 70s softcore Europorn films that would end up in cut and dubbed versions on late-night cable TV stations in the 80s and 90s. Narratively it doesn't add up to much, but fans of old-fashioned erotic cinema will have a better chance of enjoying this than the average viewer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review desiree c You've got to be shitting me!!!!!! This just proves how off the critics are here on Rotten Tomatoes. He pulls out his huge weiner and says it's in "sleep mode". 100% on the tomatometer. 2 stars because we had so much fun wtfing all over this movie. Handfuls and handfuls of wtf tossed at each other during this movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A strange brew. A mystical couple and their maid host a gathering of nameless souls to indulge in an orgy that turns into a group therapy session. Lots of surreal images, a little bit of skin, here and there, with a healthy dose of male full-frontal nudity and a sad group of characters made this a difficult film to process. But in spite of that, this viewer found it quite interesting. It is slow moving, but full of rich visuals. The dialog seemed a bit pretentious, but, as I am not a francophone, I do not know if that was the fault of the script or the subtitles. A typical ambiguous French ending. Will he, or won't he?
