Jordan Mintzer The Hollywood Reporter Laughs are rather few and far between in this episode, which, at least, has the merit of clocking in at only 92 minutes and flies by quickly enough. Feb 6, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Khaliel P Riding heavily on the success of Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis released three years earlier, Les Tuche uses the same formula but flipped around. Instead of bringing someone from the South up North, this time it’s Northerners being thrown into the South. It’s essentially the same concept, but one that had already proven effective—and once again it worked, becoming a real hit upon release. Some lines even became cult quotes, and, 14 years later, people are still shouting “Fries, fries, fries!” Not all the characters are given the same treatment, though. Wilfried is somewhat forgotten in this first film, with very few scenes and almost no character development. Grandma Suze doesn’t really add much either. Still, the variety of characters overall remains a source of comedic strength. You switch off your brain, have fun, and that’s all there is to it. The fact that this film is still so well-loved today is no accident. Yes, it’s on the same level as La Soupe aux choux or Les Visiteurs—so, not exactly highbrow. But aren’t those precisely the kinds of comedies that have managed to stand the test of time? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/21/25 Full Review Read all reviews
