Cath Clarke Guardian Juliet Stevenson gives a typically excellent performance of bottled up shame and guilt as a woman haunted by the sins of her mother in this low-budget British drama. Rated: 3/5 Sep 14, 2017 Full Review Francesca Rudkin New Zealand Herald While the tone feels uneven, Let Me Go is handsomely shot and filled with brave subject matter - and, thanks to strong performances by Stevenson and Bertling, it leaves you with plenty to ponder. Rated: 3/5 Dec 27, 2017 Full Review Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz Flaws, contrivances and occasional mis-steps aside, Let Me Go, in its best moments, is a very, very good film indeed. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 2, 2017 Full Review Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) The intensity of the subjects they address offsets the histrionic tendencies in the film's execution. There's no such defence, though, for the soapy subplots. Rated: 2/5 Sep 18, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Judy M Trivial subplots spoiled this film but Juliet Stevenson's acting made me want to watch to the end. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Sandy W This true story had the potential to be such a powerful film but instead has a sense of stilted flatness to it. The director's fault? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Juliet Stevenson is a stellar actress, probably attracted to this project by the nuanced emotional layers involved in such a complex real human story, but the film just doesn't work despite that or her talent. The side-plot romances are completely irrelevant and only serve as filler which detracts from the main story. Even the incidental music seems off, as if lifted from a different film and borrowed for this one, and I cant quite pinpoint why I feel that way. Shame. The story deserves so much better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I read that juliet stevenson excels in this movie - i think she often excels in movies, however this is a challenging role and she really does it justice. I was absorbed by this film and the characters. unlike a critic i read, i don't mind the distraction of the grandaughter's romance - it is a pretty dark theme so it provides some relief. a Moving and confronting.film.
