Critics Consensus

Jet Li's arrival breathes fresh life into a tired franchise formula -- but not enough to put Lethal Weapon 4 on equal footing with its predecessors.

Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: C Sep 7, 2011 Full Review TIME Magazine Mindless, sadistic violence juxtaposed with rote sentimentality: this is how Hollywood has finally solved the family-values conundrum, the question of how to entertain the blood- and sex-starved masses and be morally proactive at the same time. Aug 25, 2008 Full Review Leonard Klady Variety It matters little that the film is rife with non sequiturs, nonsense and nihilistic violence, because its heroes are so darn buoyant and charming. Iván P Entretenida, buenas bromas, escenas de acción bien logradas. Me parece la mejor de la saga. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Farah R The film's running joke is justified, as Gibson and Glover are too old for this. The charm of their wild stunts and crazy banter wanes, leaving nothing but mindless action sequences and a vapid plotline to follow. Lethal Weapon 4 is the last entry in the series, for good reason. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Liam W Loads of action and on form humour. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Zinjx W The infectious chemistry between the actors and the unpretentious atmosphere as well as good humor keep Lethal Weapon 4 afloat. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Thomas K Even part 4 is a great action-flick and Gibson and Glover are still one of the best buddy-cops ever in movie-history.
