Chris Alexander Alexander On Film Each one of Franco's movies is a piece of a larger puzzle, a brush stroke on a massive, complex canvas and a tapestry of passion that has never been equaled. But Sadist is certainly among his best pictures. Apr 6, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Jess Franco plops more unwatchable crap in a dark, forgotten corner of cinematic history. It wasn't enough for him to be only a lousy director this time. He casts himself as a star, too, thus ensuring that this will be a stinker even by the standard of his many other bad movies. Avoid this at all costs! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This one went a long way towards confirming that I prefer the dreamy weirdness of Jean Rollin's softcore nudie fests to the sleazier action one might catch in the work of one Jess Franco, because the chipmunk-cheeked hotness of Lina Romay aside, there's not a lot to really recommend this one. I think I need the artsy approach of Rollin to make this sort of thing worthwhile to me, while Franco just seems to want to leer a bit more than I find necessary. Passable, maybe worth a rental? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member More sleazy Euro trash from the master Jesus Franco. Franco himself plays a deranged priest who witnesses a fake black mass and takes it upon himself to rid the devil from the people involved and save their souls. Sadly for them this means killing them. So we are treated to a heady mix of sex and violence. I have seen a great deal of Franco films. This is a pretty standard effort. True the sex scenes mainly involve S&M are quite extreme and at times uncomfortable to watch. But on occasion these scenes seem over long and make plot feel a bit disjointed. As always Franco's muse Lina Romay takes centre stage. This is good thing because she is exceptionally beautiful and spends most of the film naked. I could happy watch her on the screen for hours. She is involved in some of the best scenes. So I highly recommend Romay fans watch it. As for Franco fans? Although this is not as surreal as most of his films or indeed one of his best. It?s certainly one of his most perverted. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Strange little Franco number that does not deal in real exorcism or black masses but istead in simulated ones. Even when they have a real black mass, the sacrifices are still fake--only the orgy is real. Somewhat of a slasher film, somewhat of sexploitation flick, Excorcism is an interesting piece in the Franco canon, but not one of my favorites. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member In some ways it's entertaining just because how bad it is. The poor sound cutting out, the fucking atrocious dubbing, the bollocks acting, the poorly delivered plot, the plot itself, the drawn out scenes that are hallmarks of so many self-indulgent low-grade horror films, the colour tone due to some fuck up with the film reel shifting numerous times throughout scenes, badly cut scenes, continuity errors. In other words; name a shortcoming and there's a fair chance this film's got it. There is a stupid amount of nudity, indeed, following the first lesbian BDSM scene I was berrating my housemate for making me watch shit 70's porn when I've got my own of superior quality. The strength lies in the fact that this film is SO bad it's near laughable and thus entertaining. I would rate it higher accordingly...but towards the end it becomes painfully, sickeningly excruciating in the same way as Nightmares In A Damaged Brain and you are literally willing the film to end, which it does anti climatically even by its own low standards. So, brilliantly fucking awful with an after taste of genuinely fucking poor. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Effective horror from Franco, who does a decent acting job too. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
