In this biopic, Beatrice O'Reilly (Carol Burnett) has battled shyness and low self-esteem all her life, and always sought refuge in a drink or two. Or three. Her husband, Johnny (Lloyd Bridges), rationalizes Beatrice's drinking for years, but realizes she has slowly turned into an alcoholic. Her friend Rita (Marian Mercer) notices the change too, and convinces Beatrice to enter Alcoholics Anonymous. Beatrice's acceptance of the program and newfound strength put her life on an unexpected path.
