Brittani Nichols Autostraddle The film is funny, sweet, and enjoyable with a straight forward plot which makes it a perfect hook-up film because no matter when you come back to it, you'll know what's going on. Sean S The two great leads try their best to make this movie worth watching. The plot was better suited for a tv series than a movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/06/23 Full Review Rachel K Was in it for Gillian Jacobs and Adam Brody. Not bad! Good acting. Storyline was so so. Watchable, and cute. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/22 Full Review Audience Member One of the more difficult stages of life is when your getting older and your best friend becomes involved in a serious relationship and you must slowly watch the friendship decline. This is the premise of "Life in Partners". Unfortunately, this film avoids dealing seriously with the promising subject matter of the difficulty of being single while the last of your friends move on with their lives. Instead it plays it more for charm with some minor laughs, and a more than predictable outcome at every turn. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Strengths: Usually, a "coming of age" film comes for characters much earlier in life. However, this film does a good job looking at a situation that is all too familiar for people. Sasha (Leighton Meester) is nearing 30 and doesn't really have a clue what to do with her life. It's a relatable tale and Meester does well in the role. The real highlight of the film is Gillian Jacobs (Paige). She's the more likable one. Her and Meester have great chemistry, which she also shares with Adam Brody (Tim). The supporting cast is filled with people who are funny and give a great effort in their roles. Abby Elliot (Vanessa), Greer Grammer (Mia), and Beth Dover (Jenn) stood out. I also appreciated the way it handled Sasha being a lesbian. It was part of the story, but it didn't beat you over the head with it or try to make some preachy tale of it. Lastly, both main characters felt like they grew over the course of the film and had true arcs. Weaknesses: Though Sasha goes through a fair amount in the film, she comes across as unlikable at times. Or maybe not totally unlikable, but not exactly as someone I want to root for. Some of the timeline in the film feels odd. Since they don't directly tell us how much time has passed, seeing Tim propose to Paige feels like it was kind of rushed. Speaking of them, I wish a bit more time was spent to show the good in their relationship. While the focal point was Sasha and Paige, most of what we see between Paige and Tim is them kind of annoying each other. Lastly, though this is billed as a romantic comedy, there aren't many laughs. Overall: It's a sweet film overall. There's some heart to it and it tackles friendship over your typical romance, which is different and I liked that. The two lead actresses bring the goods, with Jacobs impressing again in an indie flick. Recommendation to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Moderately entertaining movie with the ever so lovely (and also non-drinker as well) Gillian Jacobs. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Where transition happens from youth to middle-age! Life in the thirties. Just now destined to meet the life partners, which actually threatening a life long friendship. Yeah, it is kind of reminds plenty of films from the past, but never too old to enjoy, especially if you are a 30+. It was like the next level of the life story to the films like 'Ginger & Rosa', 'Little Birds', 'Very Good Girls'. One knows the life cannot go on, being with friends forever. The friendship could still remain, but when someone comes between them, it won't be the same. That's what this film is about. What worked for this film was the two main characters. A straight and a gay friend, and how their love life or still looking for their life partner portrayed fantastically. The actresses were impressive. They are not like from list A. The director too. I wish her to flourish. Yeah, they talked about 'The Big Leboswsky' in the film, honesty, I thought too as well it an average film. The film was shot within a three weeks. Lot better than I was expecting. I love films about the life. The life transition between youth to middle-age. The lesson one learns from self-experience. So definitely a good watch. I don't see a reason to dislike it. 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
