      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

An affectionate callback to classic horror comedies of the '80s, Lisa Frankenstein can be fun in its own right despite not quite measuring up to the movies it imitates.

      Audience Consensus

Lisa Frankenstein is an overall entertaining horror rom-com whose silly sense of humor and heavy '80s vibes help make up for an emphasis on style over substance.

mathewdwan Fun quirky little movie. Loved the practical effects. Loved the characters and the lack of redemption. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Andrew M. I liked the soundtrack, cool 80's. It was funny and reminded me of John Waters style. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Ben W It was ok. Pacing felt slightly off and certain beats felt rushed or glossed over. Fun idea, but slightly underwhelming execution. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Robert S Wonderfully weird and quite funny. This was darker than I expected. I went in thinking it would be a cute little love story. Um, no. It's actually bizarre and more of a horror show than I thought it would be which was fantastic because it's rare when you get something so offbeat and unexpected these days, especially at the theater. It wears its influences on its sleeve. There's a lot of Tim Burton and Heathers in here which was fantastic. I can't recommend this movie enough. I hope director Zelda Williams unleashes something equally as interesting and fun with her next film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Derek G If youre a big Tim Burton fan, this movie is an absolute love letter to movies like Edward Scissorhands and some of Burtons other classics. But it still stands on its own two feet and tells its own weird story! Its quirky, weird but funny at the same time. I really had a good time with this one. It put a smile on my face. Its definitely going to be a cult classic for sure! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Kaveon Future Cult Classic! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jenny Nulf Austin Chronicle ... a serviceable, fun goth romp. Rated: 3/5 Mar 17, 2024 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Lisa Frankenstein is a bad Tim Burton movie with two unlikable main characters. Rated: 2/4 Mar 17, 2024 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times Just about fun enough to sustain 101 clattering, dusty, dimly lit minutes. Reviews will be mixed. But it has every chance of being resurrected as a cult classic. Rated: 3/5 Mar 13, 2024 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row A sly and subversive candy-colored fantasy that plays like the fevered romantic ramblings of a disaffected teenager's diary. Rated: 3/4 Apr 18, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Because it’s set in 1989, it also attempts a John Hughes vibe, although the movie is so inept at recreating that era that it might as well be taking place in the same year as, say, All Quiet on the Western Front or Quest for Fire. Rated: 2/4 Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness ... "Lisa Frankenstein" may not be the teen horror comedy you think you want, but it’ll surprise you in ways that will reveal what you need. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews
