A mockumentary on show biz wannabes that's a must-see for anyone who has ever answered a casting call, read a screenplay in development, took voice, dance and drama lessons, waited on tables, considered plastic surgery, got excited when their agent called, or spent time rehearsing their Academy Award speech. Griffin Dunne directed and Mira Sorvino produced this hilarious story of two would-be stars, played by Laura Kirk and Nat DeWolf (who also wrote the movie).

Todd McCarthy Variety Neither as outright funny nor as resonant as it seems to want to be. Jan 28, 2015 Full Review Philip Wuntch Dallas Morning News A solid mockumentary of both comedy and compassion. Nov 26, 2001 Full Review Eric Harrison Houston Chronicle While Lisa Picard may not have the freshest theme around, it is funny and well acted and very knowing about the ins and outs of show business. Nov 21, 2001 Full Review Chase Burns The Stranger (Seattle, WA) Ironically, the best parts of the film are when actual famous people appear-Sandra Bullock, Carrie Fisher, Spike Lee-but it's a buoyant, oddly dressed, manic, navel-gazing look at actors in New York in the year 2000, which I always sorta love. Audience Member An interesting cute little movie. It's corny but Laura Kirk carries the film through. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A little weird, but in a way which works for me. A mockumentary about Lisa who wants to be famous, but in the end it's her gay friend Tate who becomes a star. The moral is simple- fame destroys your friendships, your emotional life and yourself. Extra stuff like the Carrie Fisher interview add to the illusion that this is a real-life story. Not for everybody, but definitely worth attention. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Argh, it seems my personal touchstone for the mockumentary, Dadetown, is never to be topped. Nevertheless, this contribution to the genre has its share of laughs at the expense of actors, struggling and experienced. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member it had its moments. they were very few. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Corny but cute, over the top, and very self-referential. Good payoff, though. It's worth it if only for the windows into other actors' souls and why celebrity is a disease and not a blessing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A hilarious spoof on trying to make it as an actor. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
