Audience Member You get to see into a window of the lives of the people who live in the southern part of Taiwan. Beautiful, tearful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The New York Times reviewer, Mrs. Natalia Winkelman, simply misjudged this movie. Many conversations and lines in this movie, which were spoken in Taiwanese, cannot be translated into English without losing their meaning. The issues that this movie reflects are rather common in Taiwanese society and Asian culture. Women are taking on a lot of responsibilities and young women are also enduring pressure and expectations from their parents. Growing up in the western world did not give Mrs. Winkelman the perspective to discern these issues in the Asian communities. Not every movie needs to have a dynamic twist. It's time to broaden your horizon beyond Beverly Hill in Hollywood. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good film. The cinematography are very poetics, no need a dialogue when the acting and cinematography that good. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review david k It was interesting to get to see the culture of Taiwan more closely, but the intertwining plots did not turn out to be worth watching. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a very moving film to me. Didn't know what to expect going in, but was pleasantly surprised. It was good to see a film with a human heart about a family of women with a misunderstood mother. For the NY Times critic, who said it was tedious, what a bitter biddy. She must not get out of her own narrow shell of privilege much. It's a good thing I don't like movie critics. The characters were very relatable; it was heartening to see sisters who get along and don't fight with each other over petty grievances. The ending of the film had me tears. Kudos to the filmmakers for a very human portrayal of a family trying make sense of their own lives and moving on from the past. Natalia Winkelman New York Times By the time it is over, "Little Big Women" has lost any sense of restorative power - all that registers is tedium. Feb 5, 2021 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media Poignant, complex family drama has mature themes. Rated: 4/5 Feb 19, 2021 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation A perfectly watchable genre melodrama, an old-fashioned "women's picture," with sentiment, intricate relationships, intrigue and not-too-heavy-to-take heartbreak.
