Marya E. Gates RogerEbert.com Cox deserves better. Prince deserves better. Orlean deserves better. Audiences deserve better. And, frankly, pigeons deserve better. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 13, 2024 Full Review Adrian Horton Guardian Learning about the jewel that is the racing pigeon with an incontrovertible sense of home is a treat, but there’s not much else to find here. Rated: 2/5 Mar 13, 2024 Full Review Nadine Whitney AWFJ.org Lumpen where it should be light and too concerned with telling the audience what is happening but not always backing up why. Brooklynn Prince will fly to heights, but LITTLE WING is a non-starter. May 4, 2024 Full Review Jayne Nelson Radio Times This might have been both a sweet coming-of-age tale and an interesting look at the world of pigeon-racing. On screen, however, Kaitlyn's never-ending, droning narration is soporific, and her sociopathic behavior makes her a deeply unlikeable character. Rated: 2/5 Mar 27, 2024 Full Review Chance Solem-Pfeifer Willamette Week Dean Israelite and writer John Gatins don’t thread their chosen needle between the theme-heavy character study and the YA crowd pleaser. Mar 21, 2024 Full Review Jennifer Green Common Sense Media This isn't always an easy movie to watch, but it's a poignant tale that is well-told and pays off. Ben D I think we’re supposed to have sympathy for Kaitlyn (Brooklyn Prince), a Gen Z teen of a broken home, but she’s a miserable malcontent who feels entitled to the cherished property of another because divorce. I’ll watch anything with Brian Cox, who plays Jaan Vari, a “pigeon fancier” in downtown Portland, but even his talent couldn’t save the story. The acting when Matt (Simon Khan) is breaking into the Russian Pidgeon mafia’s (yes, that’s what they’re called) warehouse is particularly bad. In fact, the Russian gangsters’ lack of a violent response to the retaking that the whole showdown peters out in a fizzle. The best part of the movie is what you actually learn about pigeons, but you can discover that with a cursory internet search. The young actor, Che Tafari, stood out and I’d look out for his trajectory. Otherwise, this story is probably best enjoyed by reading Susan Orlean’s piece in the New Yorker on which the movie is based. You can skip it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Ace R This is an excellent movie! It has a fantastic storyline, as well as great actors. It will tug at your heart strings, and make you think. It's a must see! I highly recommend that you see this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Landen B It's a fine coming of age movie but they made the main character look like a full on villain. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review DG M a very fine film well acted smart sensitive Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review leah G PERFECT example of a movie that shows true character growth. The protagonist was unique and refreshing. Someone who relied on aggression an independence as supposed to most protagonists who are so timid and anxious. She had a lot of flaws and growing to do… which to me is the entire point of making a movie. I love that it wasn't vulgar but relied on authenticity and raw emotion while still being able to share with any age. Of course there is suicidal themes but I like that they didn't shy away from them because nowadays that's what's on peoples minds. It was a movie filled with hope, friendship and learning how to not rely on bad instincts. Highly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Kim G I was pleasantly surprised with this movie! It was heart warming and the kid actors were so cute! I recognized the actress in the movie from The Florida Project and she's absolutely wonderful! I look forward to seeing her in her future films!
