David Thomson The New Republic As it is, this adoring but congealed documentary takes them at Liv's estimate, as soulmates. But what we deserve is a much fuller portrait. Feb 21, 2014 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle It's for people who are fans enough to want to know what it was like to live on an austere Swedish island with Ingmar Bergman. Rated: 3/4 Jan 9, 2014 Full Review Ben Sachs Chicago Reader Director Dheeraj Ajolkar presents this as a testament to the power of art. Jan 3, 2014 Full Review Bernard Boo Way Too Indie Sentimental, spiritual, and intimate, Liv & Ingmar is a joy, and Ullman's candor and sweetness is a treat. Rated: 7.7/10 Apr 3, 2019 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín ... it shows how much Liv's life changed the filmmaker's appearance... [Full review in Spanish] Feb 2, 2018 Full Review Matt Prigge Metro There's a much more insightful film that could be made from their relationship, which is not to say that 'Liv & Ingmar' is useless. Audience Member Interesting, but only if you're already interested in the players. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A documentary about two legends. There is no perfect love, but with separations after a long time they manage to stay friends. Luv speaks of a life journey about a love that has ended but will stay as a dream to all the fans of their work. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Last night I finally had a chance to watch the beautiful film Liv & Ingmar which was originally released as a documentary feature and was later included as a special feature on the recent Criterion release of Persona. The film is solely Liv Ullmann discussing her life with master Swedish director Ingmar Bergman with whom she was married and has a child. Their marriage was rather short lived but since their relationship developed they way it did, during the the making of four films between 1965 and 1970, they were tied tighter than many couples. Their desire to make art together did not wain after their separation as they made six more films together and as they grew older their friendship grew much stronger than their marriage ever was. At one point, Ullmann remarks, that she had asked why he kept asking her to be in the films and Ingmar said, "Liv, you are my Stradivarius." That was a moment that I welled up a bit. This movie is probably best watched by lovers of the two masters films but anyone who loves a good love story might also be interested. I very highly recommend this. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member What an excellent documentary about one of the greatest film collaborations ever, Liv Ullman and Ingmar Bergman who did 12 movies together. They had a personal relation ship that lasted 5 years, but their working relationship and friendship lasted 5 decades. The film has great interview clips with Ullman shot at Bergman's Faro Island in Sweden and has plenty of clips from their films together that help illustrate Liv's points. This is a must see for any film fan, but I think anyone can appreciate the relationship with all its complications and rewards that Liv & Ingmar had. Check it out! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Moving and beautifully shot documentary exploring the complex relationship between Swedish film maestro Ingmar Bergman and his lifelong muse Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann. Featuring a lengthy and intimate interview with the great Nordic actress this is highly recommended. Funny, sad and touching.
