ken k A low budget art house experimental wannabe morality play horror tale that looks more like a film school students final project. That aside Lo does have its moments and its charms if you don't set your expectations to high and just try to enjoy the films story and characters. Though at times one is reminded more of Sam Raimi's and Bruce Campbell's early styles of directing and acting which prevents Lo from ever obtaining the pedigree of a cult horror film and more just a horror film fans topic of conversational horror film curiosities. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Genius. One of the best movies i've ever seen; not for action-adventure junkies, but if you're sick of romcoms and like horror, dark sci-fi/fantasy and/or cerebral films, i recommend you watch this. it bends fantasy, romance, and horror in an artful unfolding of an engaging story, the genius of which lies in the fact that the entire thing takes place with the protagonist sitting in the middle of a circle in a dark room, never moving from the spot for the entirety of the film. I was so impressed i tried to buy it, but i couldn't find it anywhere; looks like it made a brief appearance on netflix and disappeared. If you can find it, watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member An unexpected surprise. Really LOVE LOVE this movie, Didn't even notice it was a low budget film it was very well put together. Great acting from actors playing Lo and April but not as much from Justin. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review don s This appears to possibly be a student film project. It consists of the protagonist in a conjuring circle to summon forth the demon Lo in order to rescue his girlfriend who was abducted by other demons. Lo is decent looking effect-wise, but does absolutely nothing but lay around talking to Justin, the conjurer. There are some childishly silly skits acted out by demons in hopes of dissuading Justin from his task. Boring, unimaginative, and pointless. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing film. This is how you take a simple idea, simple set, and just a handful of actors and paint an incredible tale that's old as time but feels like a breath of fresh air. Once the story wraps around you, you can't escape! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Lo is one of the strangest Rom-Com I've ever seen. The makeup and production set is superb for a low budget film. The demons are like something you would find in a Guillermo del Toro's sketch book of monsters. The writing is witty, but at times the demons would say a joke or do something that doesn't fit the tone of the film or were just too juvenile. The lead, Justin, and his love, in human form, give dull performances and aren't as interesting as the demons. I still enjoyed Lo for its originality and weirdness. Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts I felt like the kookiness was a bit, forced it was just a bit everywhere and the simple story there was just not enough to capture my attention. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 14, 2020 Full Review David Keyes Cinemaphile.org There is undeniable charm at work throughout "Lo," which rushes right into a story with minimal fuss and is able to answer all its questions and establish solid enough groundwork for a plausible conclusion in just 80 minutes.
