Audience Member Un plot tragicomico sull'avidità con grandi interpreti italiani e stranieri incentrata per una volta non sul'americano poker ma su un italianissimo scoponone scientifico. Ennesimo esempio di grande cinema italiano degli anni '70. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Bette Davis acts as a mean, gaudy made up, american millionairess. I have seen her in roles, where she was much more evil, but this is maybe her most sadistic one. Every year in Springtime the millionairess arrives in a small Italian village. She invites Antonia and Peppino to her mansion to play poker every other night. Antonia and Peppino are poor, have a lot of children, no money but debts. The millionairess gives them 1.000.000 Lira, so they can gamble. And they always lose all the money back to the millionairess, who makes a perfect couple with her chauffeur/assistent George (Joseph Cotten). George is dependent on the millionariess, he loves her madly. The Senora gets great pleasure from giving money to poor people and then winning the money back. It is a nice evening distraction for her and she glady admits, that she has such poor couples all over the world, they come whenever she calls them. Antonia and Peppino start to win against her one night. They double their profit with every game. But the millionairess has tactics and opportunities to irritate and to sidetrack Peppino. It is a game without the chance to win for them, but Antonia and Peppino cannot stop. So their daugther, a calm and strange girl, puts an end to the sadistic game of the millionairess.
