Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Davis, working in collaboration with producer-director Angus Watts, has crafted an uncommonly stylistic example of its genre, infused with mordant humor and, true to its locale, plenty of exotic dead animals lying in the road. Nov 29, 2019 Full Review David Stratton The Australian Some talented actors are involved - including Andy McPhee as Ryan's friend - and Davis does his best to bring cohesion to the material, though the wobbly camerawork is, as always, an unnecessary distraction. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 19, 2019 Full Review Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald It is, in short, very much a B-movie and, on this level, it's watchable though never especially inspired. Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 16, 2019 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Watts piles on the clichés and caricatures. Rated: 2/5 Aug 12, 2021 Full Review Adrian Martin ScreenHub This Wake in Fright-lite struggles to balance the demands of a genre film with character-driven drama. Jun 26, 2020 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews This uninspired B film has too many limitations to be more than mildly diverting. Audience Member A very serious film. The good guy is not indestructible, like: Liam Neeson, Steven Seagal... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review toby h Locusts is a good effort at an Australian comedy crime flick, but it doesn't live long in the memory. Good performances, characters and a short run time makes it an easy watch. It's good enough to not bug you out. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing movie! Very gritty and lots of atmosphere Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Grim and gritty Australian thriller is okay but nothing special. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it. Seems underrated by critics but all audiences seem to like it ? 4 of us watched it together and every one of us thought it was great. Gritty drama and suspense with some good twists. Definitely one to add to your list and make sure you watch . Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It's so rare to see an Aussie film that doesn't seem bound by the constraints of political correctness which seems so pervasive nowadays, so it's refreshing to see a film that steps outside the PC safe space with plenty of authentic Aussie slang and degenerate characters played by a top cast. Ben Geurens is fantastic as a millionaire who finds himself in a sticky predicament in his decaying hometown surrounded by a bevy of drudge dealers, hustlers and low lifes, and his descent from cocky business man to bloodsoaked desperado is a wild and entertaining ride. The direction seems oddly lost at times but with amazing outback footage, a tight script with plenty of unexpected twists and turns and some great (and maybe a few not so great) performances, Locusts is a bold, gritty and original spin on the outback suspense thriller - kind of a supercharged reboot of Wake In Fright - and will go down with the great Aussie crime films.
