The very first act we see Itto perform is the Shogun-sanctioned beheading of a very young boy, immediately suggesting that there is something deeply wrong with the order that this Official Executioner is duty-bound to uphold Go to Full Review

The fights are savage—blades slash, limbs fly, and blood spurts like geysers—but in addition to the swordplay, violence, nudity, and earthy sexuality, the film also offers a tender, loving father under the gruff exterior of the pitiless warrior. Go to Full Review

Logan D Aug 29 Ogami Ittō (Tomisaburô Wakayama), has been framed for treason and now wanders the counrtyside as a sword for hire while pushing his son in a baby cart. Themes of honor, grief, vengeance, fatherhood, and existential exile encompass this emotionally precise film. Wakayama delivers a stoic performance as Itto, carrying the moral weight of the film in his actions and eyes. There's a reason this storyline is iconic in the genre of samurai movies. Savage fight scenes with gushing blood are also a plus. See more Leprechaun K @LeprechaunKing Mar 27 It was okay. Has the typical samurai sword fights and plot. Made over half a century ago, the cinematography was done really well even by today's standard. Fight scenes are ultra violent. See more Anderson O @Platinum2027 04/13/2024 Cinematographically Classical! Narratively calm. Great mastery of intense Samurai action! Lone Wolf and Cub is a masterclass of 1970's Japanese filmmaking based on a Manga that's timeless and suspenseful leaving you on the edge of your seat.disclaimer:%20Lone%20Wolf%20and%20Cub%20is%20not%20at%20all%20for%20children.%20It%E2%80%99s%20definitely not %20for%20the%20faint%20of%20heart,%20it%20is%20a%20hard%20R%20rated%20Comicbook%20adaptation%20in which%20the%20manga%20it%E2%80%99s%20based%20a%20very%20graphic%20imagery,%20viewer%20discretion%20is%20advise. Samurai genre w great drama and humor sprinkled throughout, plus spewing blood great technical sword scenes w good martial arts based technique. See more andres s 06/14/2021 Wow, I'm hooked already. The camera angles, the setup to an interesting story line. And holy shit, what a way to start a movie off. Quite shocking. The beheading of a clan lord who is only a baby, probably 2 years old. Incredible, I love the style and aesthetic to this movie. It definitely feels reminiscent of a movie made in the 70's. It seems like this is a very dark and rough time for people during this period in Japan. Clans are desperate for control and power just like greedy business men. It seems like even back then, there was corruption, deception and greed just as the Yagyu clan have demonstrated how far they're willing to go to advance their position within Japan. Sickening really. Wow, I really wasn't expecting such a shocking rape scene like the one when Ogami arrived at the hot springs. And then the pig fucking killed the dad and the girl that he was having his way with. These men who have taken over this hot springs village don't seem human, they seem more like soulless monsters, which is pretty fitting given Ogami chose the path of hell. They stink of evil and will be met with an unruly and painful demise. Itto Ogami is so badass. The way he strolls in with the baby carriage right when the gang is about to kill the travelers. He fucking massacres them all lol. Deliciously stylish and super bloody, this movie was unlike any samurai movie I've seen. It takes risks and pushes the envelope to show a more raw and gritty side of the samurai period. Thoroughly entertaining and engaging to watch with plenty of clan lore. The fights were probably the most exciting thing to watch as well as watching the story unfold. See more johnathon w @Hoppynsc 05/01/2021 Superb and fairly faithful adaptation of the classic manga, takes to a great lead performance and some violent direction. Tomisaburo Wakayama) is superb as Itto Ogami, the disgraced shogun executioner now wondering the countryside as a hired assassin. Behind the camera, director Kenji Misumi delivers a faithful adaptation of the manga along with some exciting and violent action scenes. The one downside is that too much is revealed early on, not leaving much mystery to who 'Lone Wolf and Cub' is starting out (something the manga did brilliantly). Overall, a great samurai film and manga adaptation. See more Read all reviews
