R 9 01/18/2024 A good watch, is 'The Initiated'. Andrés Parra, particularly, and Aria Jara add positive performances to this Colombian flick from 2023, one that sets up an interesting story. I enjoyed the premise and how it is portrayed, I would've liked a bit more background on why the world is the way it is but overall it's done well. Visually speaking, it looks nice too. M 07/12/2023 🏳️‍⚧️🇨🇴 Inspirado en el universo literario del autor Mario Mendoza, es un thriller distópico en el que en un futuro azotado por la escasez de agua, Frank Molina, periodista bipolar y alcohólico, deberá enfrentar sus demonios si quiere llegar al fondo de un asesinato de una mujer trans salpicado por entramados de corrupción, violencia, y luchas de poder. A pesar de que se aleja bastante de las obras literarias en las que está basada, la historia es una reflexión profunda sobre la ambición y la injusticia que es muy efectiva, y la ambientación de la película sumerge al espectador en una Bogotá sombría y terrorífica como nunca se había representado antes, muy similar a la Ciudad Gótica de Batman, pero que es muy útil para el argumento. Sin embargo, hay un desequilibrio evidente con respecto al nivel de las actuaciones que no convence del todo, y que de no ser por Andrés Parra, Jorge Cao y otros, tal vez habría sido un desastre. Varios actores se dedican simplemente a recitar sus diálogos y no es para nada natural. See more JULIAN MAURICIO D 07/09/2023 Well, the truth is that I had high expectations regarding the project. However, it turned out to be just a high expectation for an interesting project. The visual production is very good, with a clear exploration of the neo-noir style. However, as the story progressed, I was increasingly disappointed to see how the script leaned on convenience in favor of the main character. There were many logical flaws, such as the main problem of the marked scarcity of water. For example, they all drank liquor or had soup on the street, which raises the question of what liquid they made them with? Also, it was amazing to see such a tremendous fighter being whittled down in the most incredible way by her lover. It should have been the other way around, right? It also seemed unrealistic to me that a jewel would not melt inside a smelting furnace. In short, these situations, among many others, diminished my excitement towards what I was seeing. Although visually the film has great value, at times it seemed even similar to Matt Reeves' 'The Batman', I feel more work was needed on the details to avoid that noise that makes your mind not believe everything it is seeing.
