Jeremy Aspinall Radio Times The boy's wide-eyed chirpiness occasionally wears thin, but you will still be moved to root for him as the trials and tribulations pile up. Rated: 3/5 May 20, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member To all my South African friends this is a fascinating & underrated classic made in both Afrikaans & English. A simple but stirring story about a young boy & his uncle flying over SA's driest desert & unexpectedly crash leaving just the boy & his dog to survive the arduous terrain. Surprisingly gripping & heartfelt..I have no doubt with a larger budget, tighter acting this is a remake that could big Box Office potential. A true gem & a must see SA Film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member "Gods Must Be Crazy" director Uys' first movie, starring his son as Dirkie... who is Lost In The Desert. Reckless child endangerment on film. Unbelievable that this actually is a G-rated childrens film, as the misery and torment that Dirkie and his faithful pup endure is so extreme as to reach comically absurd levels. I went from fear to laughter most sharply with one specific scene that I will not describe so as to preserve the surprise. Suffice to say, it is worth it to hang in there whether you are just bored or dislike feeling worried for the real child on screen. The torrent of calamity just keeps getting worse long before it gets better, to the point of unintentional comedy. But don't show this to kids, especially those with dogs. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is very emotional for me. It was the very 1st movie I ever saw on the silver screen as a small child, and I was haunted for over 30 years by it, wondering if the boy actually survived or not. Then I finally saw it again. I also found I was one of many who were affected the same way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
