Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It's a tale which unfolds nuance by nuance, and with each insight it becomes easier to empathise with both father and sons. Trier may work quietly but he knows all about pace and subtlety. Rated: 4/5 Aug 12, 2016 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com When all is concluded, truth is the explosive device that ends up having the most brutally cathartic potency. Rated: 3/4 Aug 11, 2016 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times An ambitiously thorough yet quiet exploration of familial dysfunction. Rated: 4/5 Aug 8, 2016 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review There are occasionally some great scenes, but they never add up to much of anything. Rated: C- Aug 29, 2021 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J. Cinema There is a lot of grief in 'Louder Than Bombs,' but it is not what the movie wants audiences to take home. Instead, Trier is more interested in how characters move forward in spite of tragedy. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 1, 2021 Full Review Dustin Chang ScreenAnarchy Dense yet lively, touching but not corny, mature and intelligent without being showy, Louder than Bombs is a rare gift of a movie. S R Much ado about nothing besides family drama? I was frustrated with the selfish characters and motivations. It was well made and Byrne was good, but the others were frustrating. Saw on Pluto. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Alec B The film deliberately avoids resolution, and while that's bound to frustrate a lot of people I think it's key to the movie's success. We are meant to experience all these conflicting viewpoints and perspectives not be given cheap life lessons. Also, I'm again reminded what a phenomenally underrated actor Gabriel Byrne is. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review max b A drab film about grief that just falls flat. This movie tries to be one long metaphor for grief, but falls short of its goal with a monotonous and sometimes exceedingly boring and predictable narrative. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The pauses of pregnant silences and hused voiceovers are louder than bombs in this poignant dysfunctional family drama perpending the grieving processes of the patriarch and his two sons on the passing of the matriarch with unfulfilled closures. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie had a bit of potential but it tended to drag on a bit from time to time. The performances are adequate, even though the story is somewhat hazy. I did enjoy the musical score in this movie, but I am not sure that this movie is good enough to recommend. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Too confusing. I mean, why a movie needs to be so gloomy and dark (literally) and slow paced?
