Audience Member A surprisingly strong performance from Leon Lai as juvenile delinquent just barely saves Jeff Lau's otherwise overplayed romance Love And The City. While the main love story between Lai and the gorgeous Wu Chien-Lien fails to engage, the movie gains strength through it's side story detailing the troubled relationship between young thug Lai and his father, brilliantly played by Ng Man-Tat in a rare straight part. Sadly, Lau misses a great opportunity to develop the movie's tacit social angle into the full-blown drama it deserves to be. After all, it's just a Leff Lau movie.
