Juan Luis Caviaro Espinof An excellent film, a relentless thriller, without concessions, and a solid drama, without big fissures. [Full Review in Spanish] Feb 12, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Director Soi Cheang draws from the same well as "School on Fire" (1988) and drinks a tall glass of the same hopelessness that made Ringo Lam's final installment of his original crime trilogy nearly impossible to sit through. Talented scribe Szeto Kam-yuen, who burst on the scene penning four consecutive Milkyway features ("Too Many Ways to be No. 1," "Expect the Unexpected," "A Hero Never Dies," "The Longest Nite") keeps things interesting for a while but watching a panty waist's day go from bad to worse after being kidnapped by violent mainland drug smugglers (one of which is bleeding to death from an off-screen gun battle) proves so depressing the protagonist's climatic redemption at the conclusion of "Love Battlefield" comes off like pure smaltz partly because it feels just that disjointed from everything that proceeds it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member A compelling tale that also manages to tug at the heart strings. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member If I ever get to the point where I'm able to remake a film, it would be this one. It has such a good concept but it falls flat at some points. I feel like knowing where this film went wrong is an easy fix to turn it into something amazing. Not to say that it's terrible, it's just that it could be better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Heap on the HK melodrama as a couple go through a breakup (one of the reasons is the guy watched a porno.  Yikes!) and then the husband is kidnapped by criminals out to make a score.  Fortunately for me I love melodrama, and that?s mainly what this film consists of.  It?s crazy how often they use slow motion as a love song plays on the soundtrack.  Interject that with people getting shot, run over with cars and having their heads kicked in and you have a fairly entertaining film.  I did enjoy it, but I would not blame others for loathing this one for some of the very reasons I liked it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member A good thriller with an interesting emphasis on love relations and a pinch of (welcome) melodrama. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member the story is excellent! eason's performance is incredible and niki is fresh. what a film! so touching.
