After finding himself estranged from his family after a divorce, Paul Weaver (Jeff Daniels) returns to his hometown in Pennsylvania for his sister's wedding. Though his ex-wife, Nancy (Cynthia Sikes), claims to hate him, it's obvious there's still a connection between the two. Unfortunately, Paul can't seem to get past the womanizing ways that ended their relationship in the first place, and this character trait also keeps him from re-establishing a relationship with his two children.

Melissa M This film stars Judith ivy, Cloris leachman, John Mahoney, & Jeff Daniels. Ivy plays Susan whose marriage is far perfect, Things become more complicated when she meets Paul Weaver. Paul has his own share problems. His wife took the kids & left. To go live with his mother Ruth sees everything through Rose colored glasses. And thinks all the world's problems can be solved with roast beef. His father Boomer is a cantankerous man with a heart of gold. Karen goes through her own indecisiveness of whether or not she wants to get married. Sarah can be sweet but also somewhat snarky. The movie is very soap operish. The complexity of the characters is interesting. The script is well written & there are some heartfelt moments. When Paul & Susan go to the no-tel hotel for a quickie & wind having a quick heart to heart talk. When Paul takes a homeless puppy. The puppy has his own adventure. Paul & company take the puppy to a bar. Where they have an impromptu bachelor party. Then the puppy gets to go on a joyride in a convertible. But at the end of the day Paul gives the puppy too Sarah. He eventually reconciles with his daughter using her snarky tactics to do so. By the end of the movie things wrap up nicely. Giving the film a somewhat of a happy ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review Yuri B Just another movie to pass the time. But I truly loved seeing Jeff Daniels, & the late greats John Mahoney & Cloris Leachman all on the big screen together. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Former ballplayer struggles with romance in this comedy that seems lost in its narrative. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Pleasent romantic comedy, with Richard E Grant as a man having a mid life crisis when his wife leaves him, while his son helps him turn his life around. Nicely played by all concerned, but any film that cast Grant as a babe magnet requires a disbelief to be well and truly suspended. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
