Daniel M. Gold New York Times Just when America's trade balance needs all the help it can get from Hollywood's global entertainment dominance comes the latest challenge to its supremacy: a China that can make chick flicks. Rated: 3/5 Sep 9, 2011 Full Review Mark Jenkins Washington Post Silly and slapsticky, "Love in Space" is too busy devising absurd set pieces to develop the characters or make their mutual attractions plausible. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 9, 2011 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post We're used to seeing Chinese costume dramas with Gong Li and action thrillers in which warlords do battle on horseback. But a Hollywood-esque rom-com set in China? That's a surprise. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 9, 2011 Full Review Kathi Maio The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction Love in Space is a crosscultural diversion of the first order. Mar 7, 2020 Full Review Annalee Newitz io9.com It's the perfect goofy romance if you need a night off from zombies and tense space battles. May 25, 2018 Full Review Doris Toumarkine Film Journal International Delightful, visually delicious rom-com involving the amorous tribulations and triumphs of three young couples should hit the Asian market bull's-eye as well-known Chinese cast and word-of-mouth perk and further fuel interest. Audience Member the greatest movie of all time. this is a 100% fact. it has multiple forbidden loves within one movie. It has something for everyone. Space travel, family drama, love stories. Overall the best movie of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review jesse o This movie was certainly meant to be light, silly and fun, it's obvious just watching the film, and in a way the movie does fulfill its purpose, but it's still, to me, just an average film at best. The movie focuses on three sisters and their respective love lives and because of that, there really isn't a lot of time to develop each relationship to where it feels fully developed or, really, all that interesting. I think the one that is the highlight is Lily's segment, because at least she had an obstacle that she needed to overcome to achieve real happiness. The other two, I don't really understand what they were trying to achieve. Not that any of it was bad, it's decent at best and it's got an energetic cast but its characters aren't as well developed as they would've been if each sister had their own movie. Not that I think three separate movies would've been any better, I think it would've stretched things out to an unimaginable degree, so perhaps it's for the best that the movie ended up this way. I'm sure its intended audience will certainly enjoy it. And I did too, to a certain point. It ended up being better than a lot of Asian romantic comedies I've seen, since it doesn't become a melodrama at any point, so it gets points for that. But the rest of it is average and stuff you've seen elsewhere, and I can't think of anything that this movie does better than others. It is satisfied with not re-inventing the wheel, and I don't have much of a problem with that even if the film isn't good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Three not related love stories of three sisters form the backbone of this star-studded movie from Hong Kong. Many actors/actress would be immediately recognized by movie-goers with an interest in Asian pop culture. The stories were rather ordinary. The one where a movie star fell in love with a young watermelon seller was very sappy yet romantic. The one where two astronauts with a history was interesting but due to needing to jump around the stories, has a very interupted pace. The one where a rubbish collector dated a painter-want-to-be with OCD was quite old-fashioned. I just can't see myself brining this movie into the "not-rotten" category. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Cheesy and cute stories of 3 sisters falling in and outta love in Aussie, China and Outer Space... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A pesar que las películas chinas por lo general son sobreactuadas y de mala calidad, esta es una comedia romántica que tiene sus partes bonitas, se puede ver al menos Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice date movie, perfect to watch on a lazy weekend with your lover.
