Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Better to revisit such related films as "Boys Don't Cry" or TV's "The Matthew Shepard Story" for a more persuasive look at a topic that demands clarity more than gimmickry. Nov 16, 2016 Full Review Alexander Ryll Gay Essential An expansion of her short film by the same title, Love Is All You Need? is an intriguing and very personal look at what it feels like to be persecuted for what you look like, who you are, and whom you love. Audience Member the kind of thing that would seem clever and poignant if you were perpetually 12 and never got past the "what if you said this... but about STRAIGHT PEOPLE?" false equivalency argument. all the subtlety and nuance of a battering ram labeled "LOVE IS LOVE." 0/10 for managing to make HOMOPHOBIA about straight people, reinforcing the idea that straight people matter at all, and also (especially) depicting str8s as the victims of literal homophobic slurs Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Awesome. Great concept, strong characters, great casting, bit of a tear jerker in the end Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member The shallow, soapy, jumbling & patchy, disturbing almost provoking presentation didn't quite come up with its self-proclaimed good intention (...I guess). Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member We saw the premier of this feature film last night at the Napa Valley Film Festival, followed by a Q&A with the director/screenwriter K. Rocco Shields. She prefaced the viewing by saying the goal was to create empathy, rather than sympathy, with the characters and the situations. She succeeded. The film knits a haircloth of intolerance, love, bullying, ignorance, acceptance, fanaticism, parenting, and persecution that left us feeling raw. Sadly, the narrative is all too real. The bullying quotes were pulled directly from social media, the events from actual hate crimes, and it illustrates the the rabid intolerance of other viewpoints that is all too present in our current political wake. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Good production value. A potentially helpful movie to show in schools, but comes across as a propaganda film. There's no real story. No real characters. It doesn't come across as anything like reality, not even an alternate reality. The characters are just too flat. Plus, the gay characters don't act gay, not even a little bit. There's no need to whitewash queer culture in order to sell it to the masses. Overall, I just felt this film could have been so much better. It's an interesting concept that comes across, in the end, like a gimmick. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
