Anna Smith metro.co.uk Quite a few plot strands are left hanging still, that's probably the point and shouldn't bother those who enjoy atmospheric character-driven dramas that quietly ponder sex, religion and death without breaking a sweat. Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2018 Full Review Philip French Guardian It is a film of nuance and subtle glimpses, like looking at the world through a curtain of Breton lace. May 15, 2011 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard It refuses to be either prurient or particularly erotic. Its quietness, however, is deceptive. Quillévéré is clearly a director to note. Rated: 4/5 May 13, 2011 Full Review Sarah Manvel Critic's Notebook There is no plot to speak of, and the action consists of a peculiar stew of confusion, illness, loathing and repressed sexuality. Aug 9, 2018 Full Review Allan Hunter Daily Express (UK) Newcomer Clara Augarde proves to be a real find in Love Like Poison, a severe coming of age drama set in the Breton countryside. Rated: 3/5 May 15, 2011 Full Review Sophie Ivan Film4 No one does underage sex in cinema quite like the French, and the roots of Quillivere's tale of 14-year-old Anna's sexual and emotional awakening in a sleepy Breton village spring from a time-honoured tradition of coming-of-age a la Francaise. Audience Member WOW......WOW....WOW......WOW.....WOW.....SUCH A BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT MOVIE 2 WATCH WITH A FANTASTIC CAST THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE IT IS SUCH A POWERFUL DRAMA MOVIE 2 WATCH, BUT IT IS SUCH A BRILLIANT MOVIE 2 WATCH WITH A SUPERB CAST THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE.......WARNING THIS MOVIE CONTAINS STROBE LIGHTNING EFFECTS THROGUHOUT SOME SCENES THROUGHOUT THIS MOVIE Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This was excellent, although I was uncomfortable watching it. It's a film that would perhaps not be made in the UK - a tale of family life, with Anna at the centre, 14 and dealing with her sexuality, her family relationships, boyfriends and impending confirmation as a Catholic. There are no car chases or murders, just a perceptive investigation of social relations in modern France. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Understated and underplayed coming-of-age story with a personal struggle between faith and sin for the teenage protagonist. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent first feature-film made by a very young yet very mature French filmmaker, Katell Quillevere. Touching and introspective journey in the mind of a young girl discovering life and fighting her own demons. Wonderful appearance of Michel Galabru. Beautifully directed and shot. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member The film plays with the idea of childhood innocence and the fragility of getting into adulthood. Many of the scenes might make certain viewers slightly uncomfortable, but that is where the film succeeds, and where it needs to go in order to explore the themes that it presents. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
